@yukushi: It's because Sony is scared to death of their expensive, yet inferior, multiplayer network being shoved aside in favor of Xbox Live (which is really running on the Azure cloud). If game makers had to choose, they would pick this over PSN every day and with crossplay it nullifies Sony's investments in a cloud network and destroys that as a possible revenue stream.

@jerjef: Consider the amount of time spent making BC work and making each game that's added to the list BC. Now look at how often the feature is used.... You would have to conclude all the effort is wasted time, the cost to make BC work doesn't justify the amount of time people actually use it. More options is good, but not if the come at the cost of better options.

Good Star Wars games are dead. I was so excited for the reboot of Battlefront. Surely DICE would do this well, right? All they had to do was make a more Battlefield Battlefront, or just remake the original with better graphics.

They did neither, and took a good game and concept and it made it terrible. Bring back the good Star Wars IPs like Jedi Knight and X-Wing, stop making this shitty shooter crap.

@mc_snap: Pretty much every early online game wasn't using dedicated servers, they used the poor client server model where one player is host and can get a potentially large latency advantage.

This wasn't some failure unique to COD. And it's not coming back, Sony and Microsoft have dedicated servers within their networks and surely Activision will continue to pony up for dedicated servers for PC. The market saw the need to fill the space and now plenty of companies host networks that can be servers for multiplayer games.

@brownyyy: One does not take a futuristic shooter and change a few textures and throw it back out there and say it's WW I now.

@Damazig: Try that again, but read the interview this time. He said no games on steam were selling 6 million copies back when Gears was selling 6 million on console.

You would boycott them if they made a good PC game today? Your loss.

@reavern: It's not that impressive. Space Engineers features user-defined concave geometry too, with real time deformation and block by block destruction. Now ramp it up to a 100 clients doing it at the same time, this is an MMO after all, does it hold up?

If you want impressive space battles online, Eve Online. They've had a thousand people involved in a single battle. Can Star Citizen do this?

@jpeters36: Taking it further, this year's sales lead to an 11% drop in revenue for various reasons. Sony labeled it as significant, even if the number of plastic boxes shipped is pretty much the same, the result of shipping those boxes is seeing a lower return on investment.

Also, the trend with console sales isn't a decline and shouldn't be. As game libraries increase and prices drop sales should increase.

@akhirahim: You know, accusations of developers swindling customers are tossed around far too casually. If people like yourself did know the amount of work that goes into these things, the rate at which people claim a game is a scam, or that the developer hates them and is laughing all the way to the bank, would drop dramatically. As a developer myself, I cannot imagine plotting to develop something on the scale of NMS just to scam people. The game isn't fun. Don't confuse its lack of gameplay with a scam, because the amount of work to develop their universe would take more brainpower than the sum total of all the game's ill-informed critics possess (only the ill-informed ones, not all of them).

@chiefwiggum16: The licensing issues would still exist. The licenses were for Xbox 360. Whether it's hardware built into the Xbox One, or recompiled or emulated updates to older games, it doesn't change the legal red tape concerning licensing.
