Off the top of my head, I can think of a few examples of why I needed to use cracks to get games to work and why restrictive DRM hurts gamers. One was Doom 3. It worked fine for a while, but then one day it would not start due to my key becoming invalid. Was unsuccessful getting the issue resolved in the normal way. Eventually, I said screw it and got a crack. Problem solved. Same thing happened to Bioshock. I played it once through just fine and came back 6 months later to play it again. It said I had to reactivate. Why? It was never uninstalled from my computer. Luckily they give you 5 activations, but what happens when those are used up? GTA IV. What a fiasco. The SecuROM protection did NOT work at all and the game wouldn't even start out of the box. Waited and waited for the first patch. That didn't work either. So now I'm sitting here with a $50 useless game that I can't even play. Frustrated, I got a crack for it and the problem was solved. Don't even get me started on Starforce and how it trashes your computer. I will NEVER buy another Starforce protected game. Ever. I don't care how great it is. Some forms of DRM can force legitimate users to go into the black market to get cracks just so they can get their legally purchased $50 game to work.
The Intel i7 will still eat the Phenom's lunch. But, the Phenom II is a good CPU at its price point. AMD used to make some very good stuff. Let's hope they can catch up and pass Intel again eventually.
