Wow, Thanks man...I looked all over the site and couldn't really find another board that took 667 and was AM3...I'm probably going to go with this board. Thanks a lot!

I'm pulling the trigger on some of the parts for my first complete build. I'm getting a little nervous and making sure everything looks good.

So, I've been eyeballing this mobo for awhile. It's AM2+/AM3 socket AND it uses DDR2 RAM.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103882&cm_re=amd_x4-_-19-103-882-_-Product

or at least claims to do it. I'm going to use 667 RAM.

so here is the CPU I plan on buying...

My problem is that Athlon II X4 isn't listed specifically under the CPU type. Will this work with my 667? I know it says it, but I looked at all of the reviews and didn't see anyone using the Athlon II, just the Phenoms. It's got me nervous.

i love you guys....

just what i wanted to hear. as for a cpu i'm getting a AMD x4 3.0 which should handle that UE3 game I was talking about.

on a side note...whats the deal with computers and RAM these days. i look at the sales ads in the newspaper and the computers have like 4...5 gigs. that seems silly to me.

thanks again.

Hey! I am working on a new build, and I was wondering how important DDR3 is. I was hoping to save a few bucks by reusing some old DDR2 RAM, but I've had a bunch of people telling me to upgrade, but they cannot tell me specifically why. I'm currently using the DDR2 memory and I haven't had any issues playing many games. The games I have a hard time playing are ones that demand a better CPU. So can I sneak by with DDR2 for a couple of years? I don't want to play Crysis 2 or anything. The game I'm most concerned about is a Unreal Engine 3 based sequal to the FPS Red Orchestra. In two years I'll just buy a new mobo and memory if it becomes an issue. I mean when they list system requirments they typically just say 2 gigs 3 gigs, not naming DDR3....so is this important? I haven't made up my mind on a GPU yet, but it'll be enough.

tldr: Can I sneak by with DDR2 RAM and still play most games at mid/high settings with a good graphics card?

Thanks for any replies!

Is that brand really that bad? It comes with the case in the combo deal, and I have another 500W as a backup. SOOOOO your saying for sure thats enough? Can someone else back this up?

Thanks for the reply though btw.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.472904

I'm thinking about buying this DIY kit. Here are the specs:

  1. AMD Athlon II X4 635 Propus 2.9GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor (Model: ADX635WFGMBOX)
  2. MSI AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX Motherboard (Model: 785GTM-E45)
  3. G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory (Model: F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK)
  4. Rosewill Black Computer Case w/ 500W Power Supply (Model: R519-BK)

I'm worried about that PSU. 500W doesn't seem like it's enough. For my video card i'm just going to reuse my 9800 GT, which I guess is a little outdated these days.

Will this 500W power supply be enough?

Alright heres my problem. My samsung LCD monitor has had some problems. About a year ago, it appeared to be dead. So I put it aside hoping that it would magically fix itself...well it magically did. Bout a week ago I dug it out, and it worked! Well then today the power went out for a second (i live in FL lightining does it all the time). The monitor is on a surge protector so it didn't fry the monitor. When I went to restart my machine, my computer started blinking on and off. It shows whats on the screen for a second, then goes black. The light on the power button is blinking on and off, kinda looks like it's in sleep mode, but the screen goes on and off. I'm not 100% sure if this is the same problem I was having before, butttttt im pretty sure it is.

Sooooo what could I do? I'm leaving in unpluged for the night to see if that helps, but I doubt it will. Anyone have any clue what this is? Secondly where is a good place to buy a cheap LCD monitor? I have a back up, but dear god is it old. It's an old CRT, and is only like 17 inches....I can't go back to that again. I'm about to check craigs list, but was hoping there was a fix for my monitor...

thanks for any response.

Wellll if my memory serves me correctly it is a XFX. I just got back from Wal Mart where I didn't get ID'd and the can of air was only $5.

SOOOOOO...I sprayed the hell outta my card, and still no temp change...

So it must just be my case ey? The reason I doubt this is because my case has both sides open, and a pretty big fan pointing directly at it...bigger than any case fan i've ever seen. Maybe the case is just too small...

Does anyone know if the video cards have like an auto off button when they hit a certain temp?

Does anyone know of a progam that can give me a report on the temp when my computer crashes? if one exisit that is. Better yet one that constantly remains in the corner of the screen similar to the FPS function on Fraps.

Oh, I know its the GPU, it runs at round 80c....and i think it has some auto shut off when it hits 100c maybe 95 because I never see it higher than that. But i'm never looking at the temps when it shuts down.

My other stuff is fine. No overclocking. And as for ventilation...I have both sides of the case open with a stock fan or so inside, and a large 6 inch metal fan blasting in, which doesn't seem to help much (which is why i think it may just be dirty or something)...

so yeah.
