And the AMD cards are reportedly inaccurately advertised as they had to lower power limits on the cards after they were frying systems. Not sure how much they had to drop the amount of power being pulled or how it impacted performance but it must have impacted it to some extent.
Sounds like this is the one to go with. It's a bit more expensive sure, but it's also better, almost proportionally so which is unusual.

@Metallic_Blade: Wait, you know the comparable AMD card has less memory right? 6GB is more than enough for anyone at this price range. If you want more... Spend more. Simple. Few games even hit 4GB even at 1440p, let alone the 1080p that this game is designed for.

I would argue that AMD has a history of using VRAM to fluff stats. They had a bunch of cards recently that had 8GB for no good reason, because even at 4K you won't use that in 90% of cases.

Also, memory is one of the most expensive components of the video card. If they could just slap on a shit ton of VRAM and it would actually help, don't you think they would? They kind of do for enthusiast cards like the Titans and ti models. Which are substantially less value oriented and intended for different uses.

@Saxondale: Considering how much Season 5 split from the book (which was much better although it had a very unpopular slow chunk that I didn't mind so much) and the fact that this season has already been stated to be even further away from the books than Season 5 ever was makes me hopeful for the book.

Ironic considering the quality of the last couple of seasons, which have only really managed to be interesting towards the very end.

I think Oculus' "platform" could be the very bullet they bite. It's one thing to be established like EA and break out into something like Origin, which only really impacts what shortcut you click to launch a game. It's another to restrict your hardware in this way, and to prevent people from using it how they please. Oddly enough, I don't think this mishandling of things is coming from Facebook. It seems like a mistake a fresh young tech company would make, not one that's been around since before social media was second nature to most of us.

I hope it works out and they open up, take better advantage of an established and open platform like Steam instead of insisting on their own. That or devs refuse to use it and instead just run the games on the headset without selling through Oculus' marketplace. Otherwise they are potentially holding themselves back as developers from reaching customers in a very small (at least for now) install base.

Oculus seems to be the only platform not holding to the philosophy of 'no competition for the benefit of the market' that they themselves kind of coined.

@handofkain: They make money on games, it's on their platform, and it's all digital so they probably make more off game sales on PC than from Best Buy or Gamestop. Xbox One isn't suddenly useless because you can get the games on PC. The Xbox One is still going to be simpler to use, and more accessible by a large amount. Making those games on PC won't shrink their market somehow, it just expands who can enjoy the platform.

@scooby_dooo: Are there other more reliable sources? I don't think I've ever heard of gamepur. Look at articles with "rumor" in them from those guys a lot of them seem to just be throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks, or reposting the same rumors everyone is reporting on after everyone else posted it.

Also, the difference between current iterations of the two is actually SMALLER than the difference you described, and look at how much of a difference that made to the market.

@crusadernights: PS3 and 360 were in the same boat at this point.
And there are actually games this generation that wouldn't have happened last generation, at least on consoles. Larger play spaces, more enemies, more expressive characters, smarter AI, and more. Then there's VR on the horizon which is going to be one of the biggest changes since 3D engines. I'd also point out that there are some experiences coming that look like they will be leveraging the capabilities of this generation: Crackdown 3 for example has that crazy destructive stuff coming which is clearly something you could not have done at that scale last gen. Even at a fraction of the scale, Red Faction barely worked on consoles.

@rosinmonkekyx17: "I wish popular game A was a completely different game."

Space engineers can do what you want, if its planetary and orbital combat all on one server.
