The movie could be good. But I think I would prefer a TV series to a movie. I mean Game of thrones is the best example of why turning books into tv series can work much better than a movie. Also I have this nightmare of them making a pg-13 Witcher movie....gwah...I died a little just thinking that. On a more positive note I think Hugh Jackman could do a great job as Geralt.

@mesome713: Maybe I am. But uncharted controls how you play a game as much as any fighting game does. Sure there are some QTE type moments in uncharted that don't exist in Fighting games but when you get down to the basic freedom that is given during a combat experience they are on similar levels. In fighting games the combat system is more complex but you don't really have any freedom to move around or use your environment. In uncharted the combat is more simple but allows for freedom with the environment. Now you get to choose where you hide to fire your gun, which gun do you use, how many enemies will you take out with stealth, etc. Is a fighting game more expressive because I have freedom to do 20 things in a tiny box to one person or is uncharted because i can do 4 things to 40 people in a big box in any order I want?

@mesome713: Maybe I wasn't clear by what I meant by scripted scenes in fight games. I have to win the fight to progress to the next cut scene but each fight is scripted in the sense that while you are in control of your character you win or you lose those are the only two options. Just like in uncharted. Why is one high expression while the other is low expression?

@mesome713: well lets compare uncharted to a fighting game like soul caliber. In both games you the player are guided to a scripted fight you take control of your character to win scripted fight. Then you proceed on to the next scripted fight until you reach the end of the game. In both games you have number of ways about going about each fight before you are then directed towards another fight. The big difference is that uncharted you are stuck with one character for a 12 hour journey and soul caliber you can choose between several characters to repeat the same hour longish journey. Neither game is exactly brimming with meaningful player choice. Yet fighting games are "high expression" experiences while uncharted is "low expression"? I don't see his logic.

@mesome713: Cool I didn't know that I have never played Dues Ex. But most of that does not exist in Dishonored. Yet he views it as high expression gaming and he also included "fighting games" in that category as well. doesn't that seem weird to you?

To a certain extent I agree with him. But even then some of his arguments don't make sense. He says that dishonored represents high-expression gaming but it also falls victim to the same problem that he listed for heavy rain "They're basically like five movie scripts all mashed together, and you're just picking which script you're telling at any given point in time,"

To be fair it is a good thing that he is speaking up because we always need to be applying a critical lens to all aspects of game design. But we should also recognize that maybe an interactive movie is what certain people are looking for.
