But....but....but....Stanley Kubrick.....and Jack Nicholson.....and the brilliance.....the blood coming out of hte elevator scene....the twins...the tailing shots of the kid on his big wheel....the axe through the door....the brilliance

Yes, all very brilliant and scary, but Kubrick's version is missing the topiary scene! ;) No, in all seriousness (getting too far off-topic here) but I really DO like Kubrick's version, even though Shelley Duvall is totally WRONG as Wendy. Nicholson is perfect.

[QUOTE="mombird"][QUOTE="fs_metal"]

How often are remakes as good are the original, or anything close, anyway?

Halloween? Awesome. Remake? Crap

King Kong? Awesome. Remake from the 70's? Aweful

The Fog? Awesome. Remake? Not good

The Shining? Awesome. Remake? boring

Assult on PRecinct 13? Cool as hell. Remake? Rubbish.

I rest my case

I hate to admit it, but I really WAS looking forward to a VII remake when I first saw the demo. I was thinking how great it would look on the PS3. Now that you mention all the above, FS, I have to agree with you, with the exception of The Shining; I liked the remake. FFVII - unless it was exactly the same as the original - would be disastrous. Would I still buy it? Of course! But chances are I'd hate it.

You....liked that made for TV Shining thing? IT lacked the brilliant acting and directing...and art of the original

I read the book WAYYYYY before I saw either movie (we're talking probably 1979 or 1980; yes, I was reading Stephen King at a tender young age). The remake of the movie more closely follows the book- probably because King wrote the screenplay. ;) Anyway, that's why I prefer the second version. Don't get me wrong - I still like Kubrick's work!

I'm getting the DS Lite in the next month or soto be able to play FFIII. I'm so looking forward to it! I hate the fact that I have to buy a separate system just to play this game, though. :x

I felt the story was complex and had a great beginning, but I did become confused as the game progressed and felt it went downhill somewhat. Is it possible for a FF to have TOO many sidequests? I don't know, but in such a complex game perhaps that's true. I just didn't care about the characters like I have in other FF's, like FFVII, FFVIII, and FFX. Even FFX-2, even though that was just. . . weird. :?

I don't regret the 3 years or so that I waited patiently for my pre-order, nor do I regret paying $70.00-something for the special edition (metal case, etc.). After all, I got plenty of play time from it. Like other Final Fantasy's, I'll have to play it over and over a few times to really get what's going on. Hey, I didn't care much for VIII the first time I played it, but after playing it again I thought it was great. Maybe the same will happen with XII for me.

Hi everyone,

I'm Traci. I'm 36 and live in New Jersey (USA). I am a huge FF fan. So much so, that one might call me "obsessed". ;)

I've never joined a union, but I'm looking forward to being here with other FF nuts. Now, if I can just figure out how to create my own banner for my sig! :roll:
