Gamers in fact do have credibility as far as this goes, and for this reason: any gamer who has not engaged in any kind of violent action such as a school shooting is living evidence that violent games do not a psychopath make. By this point, gamers must be at least close to outnumbering people who don't play games, so by the senator's logic, the country should have devolved into anarchy by this point.
Bad things are going to happen regardless of how violent the contents of games are. Hell, there were several school shootings in the United States long before games became as advanced as they are today, and no amount of sophistry will convince me that games like Super Mario Bros. were to blame for that kind of violence.
Plain and simple, Senator Yee is a child looking for a convenient scapegoat.
