With the announcement of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, we can tell that there are going to be a lot of changes to the game series that we all know and love. The strange new titles are far different from all other games in the series, which have all been named after a color or gemstone. This got me thinking what does X and Y mean? From the trailer, we know that there are two legendary Pokemon (most likely exclusive to each game) that resembles these letters and oddly enough have been named with those letters (Xerneas and Yveltal). We also know that x and y are used on a coordinate system for 2 dimensional graphing, so perhaps Gamefreak will make a statement with a third game Pokemon Z, by saying that this is the first Pokemon game to be released in 100% full 3D and x,y, and z make up a three dimensional graph naming them after their axies.

But I think that there is more to this than what the pokemon look like. X and Y are also used to name chromosomes (XY for males and XX for females). With every new game the breeding mechanics change and it wouldn't be crazy to think that maybe X and Y will introduce Hybrid or cross breeding pokemon. How cool would it be to have a Magmar/Electabuzz fusion pokemon that was both a fire and electric type? There is no doubt that there will be restrictions on which pokemon can "mingle" because of course with over 600 pokemon, the possible combinations would be endless.

What are your thoughts? Good? Bad? Impossible? I guess we'll just have to wait and see what October brings us.
