Wow, talk about people with their heads in the sand. People who claim that gamers are only gamers if they can play modern games on their rigs are just ignorant children. All you've revealed about yourself if your ignorance of what existed before you were a twinkle in daddy's eye. I can count on one hand the number of truly perfect gameplay experiences I've had in my life. And only two or three of them are from the last three or four years (Bioshock, Fallout 3, Resident Evil 4). Not only do many of the older games COMPLETELY hold up under modern scrutiny, many of them are still unequalled. System Shock 2 might look like a steaming bag of crap compared to modern graphics engines, but it was unmatched until Bioshock game about. There are even some genres that have essentially been abandoned. The original Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain was basically Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past (another of my perfect gaming experiences that I can play on my Asus EEE) but rated 'R'. Great plot, amazing voice overs, fun gameplay. Again, NO ONE is saying that everyone should go out and buy a Netbook....OR that a Netbook should be used instead of a modern gaming computer. But to say that one can't have some amazing fun gaming on a netbook is simply stupid and ignorant. Not only to I have access to the PC greats....but every SNES game ever, some PSX games, and ALL N64 games. Play Ocarina of Time on a computer that weighs less than a book and tell me it's not cool.....I dare you.

I should also say that I can boot onto my desktop in Asus XP in under 25 seconds....and be playing a game in a minute. I wish the same could be said for my gaming laptop.......with Vista.

Why is everything have to be black or white for some of you posters? Should netbooks be used for modern games? NO. But if I told you that Nintendo was coming up with a handheld with keyboard and mouse peripherals that played every great game from 2006 and back people would be spontaneously combusting with joy. And the price point for these online is sometimes even sub-$200 for a refurb. $200 bucks for a very light portable gaming platform with literally hundreds of great choices? Come on? How is that not a good thing? And if you don't think it's a good thing....shut up. Seriously, go home and stroke your $3000 laptop with twin 8800s and tell yourself how smart you are. As the DS proves, as the Wii proves, power is far from everything......great games on a system that can play them. THAT is gaming goodness. And, when I want to come home and play Bioshock on my great gaming Dell laptop, I will. I choose both.

Well, what I did to help my little Asus EEE be a bit more of a 'gaming netbook' is that I put a bluetooth dongle in with a nice little mouse. AND I have one of those rollup keyboards that I got on sale from Staples for 4 bucks. Truly, every game I have on there including the RTS and FPS games are extremely playable. Another thing that could have been covered in the article is the fact that the resolution and CPU speed are adjustable through software that is easily available on EEEUser. It makes MANY games very playable.

Alright...this is simply a TERRIBLE article. NOT because, as some of you suggested, because the idea of a netbook and gaming is ridiculous, but because it's clear NO research was put in. I am the proud owner of a great Dell gaming lappy AND an Asus EEE. Clearly, the netbook is not a powerhouse. But the fun has been rediscovering the great and classic games of all time. I presently have Diablo 2 LOD, Nox, System Shock 2, Undying, Freedom Force, Duke Nukem Manhattan Project, GTA Vice City, Deus Ex, Dungeon Keeper 2, Drakan, Fallout 2, World of Goo, Sacrifice, Starcraft, Sanitarium, Puzzle Quest, Jedi Knight Academy and Puzzle Quest. That gaming line up has an average review score off the charts...and it effectively makes my Asus WAAAAY better for portable gaming than any PSP or DS. Tell me those games are outdated...fine, they are, they aren't Crysis....but they are also ALL brilliant and worth rediscovering. Check out EEEuser for a complete list. Please Gamespot, I enjoy your articles...but do some work...you are journalists.....

I find the fact that people are getting so angry about this funny....better graphics does not mean better system...I mean, the Gamecube was technically superior to the Playstation 2...and we know who won that war. What I find disturbing about this whole thing is game companies failing to learn from their mistakes. There are MANY examples of this, but I think this 'battle' really showcases it. Here is what I mean: For those of you old enough to remember, the original 'next gen' battle after SNES/Genesis was Playstation/Saturn (and for you old skoolers...3DO :D). Now the Playstation and the Saturn both had their strengths and weaknesses...but ultimately, the reason the Playstation won the war was because it was simply easier to program for. Then in the next generation they developed the Playstation 2 which was SO hard to program for, that they had to invite 3rd party companies in to show them what was what. Sony was really just lucky that Gamecube's 3rd party support was so dreadful, and that Xbox was the new kid on the block. But, thanks to Playstation loyalist, backwards compatibility, and amazing titles developed towards the end of the console's cycle, Playstation 2 won the battle handily. So you'd think that Sony would have learned their lesson...but NOPE, more of the same. So we have the Playstation 3, which is more powerful than the Xbox 360 on paper, and, once again, it is SO much more difficult to take advantage of that power the Xbox is spanking it graphically. For those claiming that Gamespot is taking money from Microsoft..PLEASE!!! This is not the only website to point out this graphical discrepancy...do your homework before pointing accusing fingers. Now put away your torches fanboys....I'm not saying the Xbox is the better system. Honestly, I don't care. I'm mostly a PC gamer at this point. But game companies, both hardware and software, need to start listening to the consumers, and the programers. That is the only way that we are going to get the amazing software that we all want, and we all crave.
