80 gb core doesnt really have much, its just a bottom of the line PS3. Only 2 usb (instead of 4) no BC, or media slots

160 gb is like the old 80gb, just without BC

TheSonOfUgly

BC?

Backwards Compatibilty (Playing Ps2 games on your PS3)

So I can't play PS2 Games on my new 80gb PS3?

If so, that scraps the idea of getting FFX and FFX-2 :(

Was it $400 and did not come with MGS4?

$699. Australia.

No games. Dual Shock3 Control.

Ive installed a 250 gb hdd into my PS3. Its really easy, and it doesnt void the warranty. Just get a 2gb flash drive, back up your save games, data etc., take out the old hard drive and put the new one in (its really easy, and Im a teh noob), the new hard drive will automatically format itself, and you're good to go. It has to be a SATA 2.5" hdd though. I got my 250 gb for 81 dollars on amazon.comhillelslovak

Nice, might have to look into that. So it would just be a matter of reinstalling the games again on the new hard drive.

I'm in australia, so it's easier for me to just buy it through work :)

No, it won't void your warranty- heck, Sony says how to do it right in the documentation that comes with the system! As for how big, go for the largest 5400 RPM 2.5" SATA notebook drive you can find/ afford.lyndonAPI

Well considering I work for a Laptop sales/repair shop, I can get whatever lol...

Righteo.

I just bought the 80Gb Hdd Edition of the PS3... It's cool and all, but I'm noticing that most games I play are taking up 5gb of storage with each game.

So the question I have.... What's the largest hard drive the ps3 can take, and will it void warranty?

I've heard/read that the PS3 uses the Fat32 formatting system, so, therefore could I potentially format the new hard drive in the ps3, then take it out again and copy the contents of the old hard drive onto the new one using a PC?

I'm a computer tech, so you don't have to dumb anything down for me. Lay it out for me fellas :)

In theory what I'm saying sounds right, but I wanna make sure I don't void warranty or break anything before I do it.

im not sure of all the features the 160gig will have yet, but i know the price is suposed to be around $650 US. it might be worth waitin for since ieve heard the new 80 gigs cant use backwards compatability and stuff like that. but again, im not sure about the 160gig yet, so i cant give ya much advice on that onechild_of_lileth

You mean backwards compatibility with PS1 or PS2 Games??? I had always heard that PS2 games didn't work anyway, so I've never really bothered with it. Otherwise I'd be collecting my FF Games LOL
