Hello PCHD!

I've recently become interested in getting a laptop, but I know little about such matters and would love some help. I would primarily use it for Video Chat (I'm taking an international course that requires such communication), typing documents and creating presentations. Gaming capabilities would be nice, but aren't necessary. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I was talking to a girl I like today and the topic of sandwiches came up. She said she loves peanut butter and fluff and I told her I haven't had one of those for years. She said she would bring one in to school for me, and i told her I would make her something too. I have no idea what to bring her. Any suggestions? Doesn't necessarily have to be food.

Thanks!

As for the question: I almost got suspended for "force choking" a kid. He got so freaked out I guess he believed it. He ended up backing me up in the principals office though, so it's all good.

I guess it is alien... anyways, it's not nearly as bad as it sounds, although you can't have too much at once. @ConformestClone: Cow pie?

I recently posted a blog. In it I mentioned salmon pie. It was something I grew up having in my diet, so I've always thought it to be common. So far, three users haven't heard of it. Have you?

I heard it had strong themes from other games (including Portal and Legend of Zelda). Have you noticed any of this?

Game Informer alerted me of a great rap song two fans made for Modern Warfare 2. If you enjoy the shooter's online play, you're bound to enjoy this tune. They even get "Spetsnaz" in there! Just be careful, as there is some language.

Check it out!

I'm surprised everyone FAILED to mention to clean/dust out your newly adopted PC. Get a can of air (Fry's, Best Buy, Walmart or any Electronics Store), unplug the PC, take it outside & go to town on it. I'm sure it probably needs some dusting out unless you know for sure the previous owner serviced it already. Not a huge deal but a minor detail everyone seems to forget. I know it's an old PC but take good care of it & you'll get some more years out of it I'm sure.

As far as protection goes, I used to use Norton 360 (got it for free) until it expired & it was quite effective but it tried to do too many things which made it look like a glutton. Now I use ESET NOD32 which works great & it's like a ballerina. Just go to their website & DL their trial version which runs for 30days. After the 30 days is up, reinstall it! Free & effective! Freaking genius!

I totally forgot about cleaning it (thanks for the reminder!). I still have 80 days of Nornton remaining. Should I uninstall it, or wait for it to drain out?

If it was me, I'd do a format and fresh install of Windows, even if it's just in trial mode (or Linux). If you can't and are leaving XP as is, I'd recommend:

1. Checking for latest XP updates from the Windows Update tool

2. Removing Norton (new Norton isn't too bad apparently but I'd rather have anything else) and installing Avira AntiVir (light on resources) or AVG Free 9 as your antivirus.

3. Install Spyboy Search and Destroy and Spyware Blaster (stop malware before it gets onto your system)

4. Install CCleaner and do a registry clean.

5. Install Auslogics DiskDefrag and defrag all your HDD partitions.

That should be most boxes ticked and your system should run quickly, safely and smoothly. I personally wouldn't bother with Firewall software. Just too much hassle. Windows own firewall should be turned on though from the security centre from XP's control panel. If you have a router, you'll be fine. As always, good browing habits should ensure you have no problems.

I did a registry clean, and it gave me a pretty solid list of issues and quirks. Now what?

Thanks for the help everyone!
