Both men had interesting points, but here's just a thought I had while watching this:

If this game was truly made as a "thank you" to the soldiers and a way to show a large amount of people the huge sacrifice soldiers are making, why does it cost $60? The soldiers aren't getting that money.

I mean this more as a rhetorical question, of course I understand that EA is a business who's main purpose is to make money, but...yeah.

Look, Tom, I completely agree with you, but Greg is absolutely right that a realistic portrayal of injury with lasting impact and permanent death simply doesn't have a place in a game like MoH, where the gameplay is supposed to be fast and intense. But that doesn't meant that MoH, or any war game, is a responsible representation of warfare.

The true and simple fact is that war is not a game, it never will be, and it perhaps it never should be. War isn't fun. Greg, you keep saying "we're an entertainment product" as an excuse, but Tom is absolutely right. War is not entertainment.

The whole argument is pointless, though. War games are what sell. I'll be honest, I can enjoy a good battlefield match any day of the week. And no, that's probably not ethical of me, and I can guarantee you when I die in that game, I'm not thinking "Wow. That was like what real men and women are experiencing to defend my freedom. I totally respect that." No one thinks that. I'm thinking curse words and hoping a jet will be available when I respawn.

So perhaps the only true solution is doing away with realistic, authentic, whatever, present-day military shooters. I'd be fine with that, the genre is way too full already, anyway.

@psuedospike @elpooz How dare you. Have you been through military training? Young men are not taught to enjoy fighting, and they are absolutely not taught to take the humanity out of killing a man. The military is an extremely serious profession, if there's one thing they DO hammer into a soldier, it's that when they point that rifle and pull that trigger, they are KILLING A PERSON. Taking their life away, robbing them of any future. It is NOT to be taken lightly. The very last thing the military wants is a bunch of kids toting guns running around bro-fisting, talking about how much they "love" fighting, and shooting down everything in sight without a second goddamn thought.Think before you speak. Your comment is the first one I've seen here that I've actually taken offense to.

It would've been cool if they went to court, and it got so incredibly dramatic that both EA and Activision just exploded. Literally blew up.

Look. I get that used game sales don't benefit the publishers, but come on. The publishers get their chance to make money right at the beginning, and they're making plenty. When I decide to sell my old truck, should I send a big shiny check up to Ford? No way. I could think of other examples, but quite frankly I'm tired of all this garbage. Hopefully the publishers pull their heads out of their rear ends soon before they drive the industry straight off a cliff. Possible solution: Maybe if the new games and DLC weren't priced so freaking high ($120 for a new COD + map packs), and you publishers weren't trying to screw us left and right, more people would buy their games new.
