You're talking about the eboot.bin file well guess what you don't need that file to play backups. You just delete the eboot.bin file and then do something and the game works. Like I said Sony can't do a damn thing about it.

USS_Data

So, according to what you just said, we don't need the main program (EBOOT.BIN) to play games. No, I'm not talking about EBOOT.BIN. I'm talking about game.dat, patch.dat, and the boot_history.dat's. Each of these record what you play for Sony.

Sony can't do a damn thing about this. The CFW uses the same security key as sony's official firmware to log into the PSN servers so in short they won't even know who is playing an original or pirated game for the simple reason that it's using their own security key. All sony is saying is pure scare tactics in the hope that some people fall for their lies.

USS_Data

Yeah... about that. Every time you start a game on your PS3, it is logged into a few files that Sony downloads from your PS3 when it boots up. The pirated games may show up as legit games, but the programs used to get those on the PS3 don't. Also, can't post the source for the disabling homebrew thing, but it explains exactly how Sony can tell what's real and not.

I think Sony should scout out those who use this for Piracy and sue them. Let people do what they want with homebrew but keep it offline (and legal). All that GeoHotz has accomplised is hurting the PS3 even more for some CFW. Harsh but what can we do but ban em. Yes they can ban you for using custom firmware because it against Sony's T&C's like I already stated.

I just hope Sony win by technicality. It's destroying gaming full stop.

fusionhunter

That's not going to work though. The way that pirates have been pirating games, as far as I know, looks no different to Sony than playing the original off of a disc. The other sentence I made bold, I completely agree with. Also, someone has just informed me that Geohot didn't do the signing right. Sony candisable all homebrew apps signed with Geohot's tools.

Sony's response to this will determine how I feel about the PS3 being hacked. If Sony decides to go on the offensive and shove security-only firmware updates down my machine's throat then I'm going to be forced to support whoever is willing to develop the platform. If Sony wants to devote all their resources to locking down the PS3 and abandon improving it, then I have no moral qualms about what I do with my hardware. In the unlikely event that Sony decides to accept the inevitable and combat it with continued improvements and benefits for staying legit, then I'd be more than willing to keep my support with them. As a previous owner of a PSP I know exactly what to expect out of Sony.rschauby

Yep. Same here. I love buying games, only to have my PSP tell me that I can't play the game I just paid 30-40 dollars for. I'm not sure what I'll do if they make PS3 do the same.

Part of me wants to try out this CFW. But the other part of me knows that Sony will probably ban people's PSN IDs with these CFWS.

Don't bother yet. At first it was kind of cool to see "Install Packages" and the other option under the game menu, but there's no point right now. None of the homebrew available is signed yet. I wasted a ton of time editing makefiles and stuff to get Cygwin to compile everything last night. Then I was like, "Oh that's cool." and turned it off five seconds later.

BTW, I lied. News has just popped up that people are being able to install PSN games they've aquired illegally. I wonder if the same goes for DLC...Map packs and such. We'll see I guess.

F1ame_Shie1d

It doesn't let them play them though, right? They still need their system licensed or whatever it's called, or did the signing keys take care of that too?

I don't usually care about trophies, but if I like a game enough, I'll try to get as many as possible. I hate grinding/farming trophies. I have NIER sitting at 92%, because I gave up once I only had the weapon upgrading trophies left. Some of the items you need are rare drops that can take hours just to get one!

Same here. I've been waiting over a week for 300 MS points but still have not received any emails besides the first one they sent. I usually don't sign up for these kind of things, but I figured since it's run be MS, it might actually work this time.

I don't know if this counts, but I went through four thanks to BestBuy's rapid exchange program. I sent out a Jasper that was eating discs, and no I wasn't moving it, and got 3 broken Falcons back one after the other. Eventually they just gave me a new slim, but running out to BBY for the past month or so was annoying.
