Because they prefer to get a PS3 for whatever reason. I can think of a few: brand loyalty (I was talking about PS2 owners, there's a lot of them), Blu Ray (just virtually won the format war), better quality in terms of fail rate, WiFi etc.

If everyone followed your logic people would only buy Wii's since it's the cheapest. Still lots of people bought 360's and even PS3's in the past. They'll do so in the future as well.

What I'm talking about is PS2 owners who are on the fence of making the step to the PS3. I could imagine lots of people being in this situation. What I'm saying is that GTAIV releasing could incite them to decide to upgrade to the PS3.

You make no sense at all, so your saying PS2 owners have been waiting all this time for a game thats on another system which they could play for $100 less if they really want to play GTA that bad. Maybe this will be the case for some loyal Cows out there of whom most allready own a PS3 right now, but most casuals who want to play GTA will want the cheapest way to play a game that will be identical on both systems.

I mean its common sense to spend as little money to play your favorite game.

well dont forgot that ppl who have a ps2 will prolly want games like ffxiii, mgs4, kh3, gt5, killzone2, jak and daxter, ratchet, etc, key flagships for playstation, so having a good multiplatform like gta4, might incite them to buy the ps3 over xbox360 with those exclusives in mind too lol

FF is a system seller. FF is the fourth best selling franchise ever selling over 80 million games. MGS also has a loyal following. Just looking at GS forums iI've seen countless posts saying people going to buy a PS3 only after MGS is released.

Everyone who is realistic will admit in terms of games the first year of the PS3 wasn't what you would call a treat. In 2008 however the line-up looks great, there's no arguing about that. With the lacklustre game library and the high price point the PS3 already managed to outsell the 360 in its first year (because EU release was in march, so European release hasn't even been a year yet. Adding US and Japan sales from nov 2006 to nov 2007 to the European sales to date yields more units sold than the 360 in its first year). If it already outsold it under these conditions, what will happen when the PS3 library catches up to the 360's?

I personally think the RROD is the main cause of this. My prediction is that if RROD issues aren't fixed within the next 6 months, 360 is sure to end last this gen. And M$ has got itself to blame for it then.

I agree 100% with taht. It is sooo true lol. PS3 is outsold 360 in 2007. And in 2008 it has games like FFXIII, MGS4, GT5, Haze, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, The Getaway 3, White Knight Chronicles, and a lot more lol.. PS3 might just catch up....

well i think the PS3 will get a good boost in 2008 for two reasons:

1) The main reason would prolly be that PS3 has a pretty good lineup this year with many exclusives: the big ones being Killzone 2, Haze, LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, Grand Turismo 5 Prologue and maybe Final Fantasy XIII (there are other ones just not as well know ie The Getaway3, The Agency, Infamous). If we're lucky Insomniac might have Resistance 2 and Naughty Dog might spit out Jak and Daxter the Lost Frontier before the year ends. With better games, sales will surely pick up.

2) Not as big as a factor as 1, but still a reason: Blu-Ray should get a boost, this year (especially with Warner Bros picker blu-ray too), which would make the PS3 one of the greatest value bluray players.
