The worst part of this sort of legislation isn't even what will be punished by law, but what people will be afraid MIGHT be. You'd see all sorts of censorship, by businesses just trying to play it safe.
Am I the only one totally underwhelmed by these mods? I mean, not one of them really adds to or improves the game, in any discernible way. ('cept maybe the map mod, which isn't really a mod) Anything's impressive without the construction kit, sure, and no offense to these modders, but I'll be sticking with the vanilla game for now..
I never played a GTA prior to GTA:SA, but not because I'm young. I just skipped it because the hype around it focused so heavily on how morally bankrupt it was, it just never stood out to me as something worth trying. When I finally did pick up SA, I was amazed at how good it was, and what bullsh*t all that hype had been. I've been a R* fanboy ever since.
Considering that they have to make it for the same-gen PS3 and 360, it makes sense that they'd use the same engine as GTA4, plus all the tweaks and such they've since patched into it - meaning they can focus a lot more on content. Maybe even going above and beyond what was in VC and SA. One can hope, at least..
i love gta and rockstar as much as the next guy, but i'm so sick of all the hype and trailers, lately. so you can take your countdown and shove it. i just want something good to play. like, now..
It's huge among non-gamers, much like Minesweeper or Farmville. There are a lot more non-gamers than gamers, so selling a non-game is naturally more lucrative than selling real games to gamers.
The problem is that these companies look at every pirated or used game as money they could have made. In reality, that's often not the case at all. Let's say, in one month, someone buys three used games, and one new game. Chances are, they're already spending as much as they're willing to spend on gaming for that month. They wouldn't otherwise be buying four new games. They'd just buy the one, and have three less games to play. So either way, the game company is getting the same amount of money from that person. I realize some people might always buy used, or always pirate, but I think most do actually spend within their budget, too. Meaning these publishers aren't losing nearly as much as they want to think they are.
