I was disappointed with SMAA too. 2x msaa > all other AA options that I've seen so far. But I mean that doesn't really matter anyway, there's ways we get can around these shortcomings, but why should we have to? The options should be in game. I don't pay good money for a game so that I have go out of my way to use 3rd party techniques to make it look right. I dunno, just seems like a gigantic leap backwards for pc gaming...

Hi, I've been out of the loop in gaming for quite some time now and just bought a new gaming PC. One thing that has struck me odd about a lot of new games is their crappy or lack of aa options. StarCraft 2, diablo, borderlands, deus ex hr. Why? I don't care a whole lot about graphics but to me AA is one of there most important aspects of video quality. I think any new game without it looks like crap. I'd much rather play a game on medium + aa than ultra + no aa But anyway, I remember playing games made 11 years ago with better aa options and even without fancy shaders and lighting effects looked better than some of the games today without aa or with fxaa. I know I can force it through nvidia for most games (not deus ex though), but still principle of the matter remains... What's the deal?
