@n0xinab0x But Nintendo is a company too, and they have to make money as well. Which is precisely why they may be doing this purposefully. Generally speaking, the biggest boost to Nintendo's console sales and the biggest showcases for said consoles have always come from its major exclusives. By taking the long view with their console, they may take some of the wind out of the sails of their competitors and gain a much stronger foothold and profits than they might have had otherwise. Again, see 3ds vs Vita.

I personally can't help but wonder if Nintendo isn't doing all this on purpose. Think about it: when are all of big N's exclusives coming out? Right when the hype machines for the PS4 and new Xbox will be at all time highs. This whole thing could end up being a masterstroke, intentional or otherwise, on Nintendo's part (see the 3DS "blunders" vs PS Vita for all the examples you could want).

What is really hurting the PS3 the most is the price. If it was just a bad launch or superficial flaws, That could easily be fixed with a patch or patches to the system's programs and some tweaks to the hardware. All could easily be forgiven and things would be going far smoother for Sony. As it stands, the PS3, the most powerful of the new systems is staggering when it could be raising the bar, simply because the average gamer can't keep up with such a high price tag just for the system alone. The Wal-Mart near my house has PS3's just sitting around taking up shelf space, and it has been that way for at least a good two months now. Normally, that doesn't happen for a system that is as new as the PS3, especially when I also consider all of the hype that surrounded it and the fact that, at the same store, it is still virtually impossible to find a Wii, which came out at the same time.
