What is a "Gamer"? If we all look back we will see that at some point in our past we had a chance encounter with games... maybe it was a friend/family member that wanted to show you this sweet new game s/he got (which is what happened to me with X-Com: UFO Defense back when I was 10 in 1993). Whatever the reason was, is irrelevant... it happened and now we are on the right path. All that makes us different from these "social gamers" is that they lack this kind of experience. FarmVille represents "easy access". These people were already on Facebook and bam--they're dumping time and money into this drivel they want to call a game. We are literally looking at 30+ million potential gamers crying out for help--a worthy outlet for their gaming desire. The Wii, like it or not, has already tapped into a large group of people very similar to the "social gamers". Was it the right tactic? Debatable... but the fact remains, people that we might never have looked at as gamers are buying games, subscribing to gaming publications, showing interest in gaming tech, and logging into gaming hubs like GameSpot... and that's all positive. I say instead of casting these people out, we take them under our wing and give them the same guidance we may have received. These are our friends and family... invest time into them and we know what will happen. You think FarmVille can compete with ANY REAL game? No, it would get pwnd.
