Anyone else think it's hilarious that all the other stupid GTA4 threads got locked?ItsEvolution

Actually, I think its annoying, because the problem I have doesn't affect the majority of this thread, and I have to go through tons of messages to see if anyone else had the problem or solution.

Hey, off topic, but the thread I posted in five mins ago got locked, and I just want to post the answer for the guy who originally posted the issue.

The issue is about GTA IV not working on SD tvs. It does happen, has to do with what region your tv was purchased, what region your PS3 originates from, and where the copy of the game is from. In my case its a 3 yr old panasonic flat screen from the Middle East, a PAL GTA IV from the Middle East, and PS3 from the US, running on composite cables at my friends place. The thread is here: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26364986&page=0

I found the answer at the official Playstion 3 forums here: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=1347414&view=by_date_ascending&page=1%C2%A0

It specifically lists which games will not work in the scenario/setup above.

I've got the same issue. I own a US 80 GB PS3, purchased in Feb. 08, and am using it at my friends place on their 3 yr old panasonic flat screen. I've plugged it in through the normal composite cables (yellow, white, red), and it says "this game cannot be played at this resolution." Oh, and its a PAL version bought in the Middle East. The store I bought it in, just after I finished paying, had a kid come in saying it wouldn't work, and the guy at the counter asked if he had HDTV, but I ignored it, figured it had something to do with his PS3 settings. Voila, doesn't work for me either. Some of you need to chill, because there are other systems and versions outside of the US. What Ive seen so far is that its directly related to the PAL version, not the US NTSC version. So for us who bought a PAL version, we are screwed. Has nothing to do with the blu ray region or anything, simply didn't include a lower res in the PAL version, the B@#tards. Probably some conspiracy with sony to push HD in a region (the Middle East) where practically nothing is broadcast in HD.
