This is a great eulogy for a great system! I still have mine. I traded in my Saturn, N64, SNES, and Genesis for it and I'm glad I did. It was ahead of its time; particularly for it's motion control capability with the fishing rod. Most people had no idea at the time that you could play Virtua Tennis or Soul Calibur with it ala the Wii 7 years later. It was also ahead of its time for its VGA graphics. At the time, very few people had a PC input on their TVs. Now just about every TV has one and if you have a 16:10 TV like mine you can play it in widescreen without the picture looking stretched. I just played Soul Calibur this morning as a way of remembering 9/9/99.
