@ghost140 @circles26 No. I think they will put on a full court press to expose the true nature of this action. Hopefully the public will see it for what it is, but the public is not usually concerned about next year. They usually only care about what effects them personally, right now. I'm afraid this bill will be nothing but good news until it's too late.
@Gooeykat That's why they reclassified the internet as a utility. They wanted the courts to slap them down to give them an excuse to grant themselves the power to regulate as they see fit. I'm sure they will show enormous restraint, as all politicians really just care about their constituents, and not their lobbyists.
@drizzygadget @rcj22001 The bill is fine...this bill. In order to enforce this bill they had to grant themselves the power to do it. The next hundreds of bills over the next hundred years is what should scare you.
This is how democracy dies...to thunderous applause.
All these headlines, and arguments about Net neutrality are just there to distract you.
The real headline, and discussion should be "The internet was reclassified as a public utility".
Do people really think Washington, or the FCC really care if your Netflix are dropping frames?
This was either an excuse to gain control, or politicians are really thoughtful and caring benefactors.
Lobbyists run Washington. If we could follow the money we'd see who was behind this, and have a better idea of the motivation..
We know Washington really wants to control content, and stop piracy. The only way to do that is to limit who controls the domains.
This action gets their foot in the door, and eventually we will have to have licensed and vetted (Lobbied) web content providers, like going back to AOL times. They will give it a year or so, then little by little make it more difficult to open a website.
Those evil corporations will once again control what you see. They are just protecting you from yourself. Don't worry.
@rcj22001 This bill is good. If it had been legislated from congress it would have been wonderful. They hadn't the power at the FCC to enforce this bill so they reclassified the internet...That's the problem. Now tell me what else this reclassification gives them the power to do? Well basically whatever they decide to do obviously, because they just find a way to do it.
@drizzygadget The bill is nothing but good. The fact that they just reclassified the internet as a utility is nothing but bad...We will see where this leads, but it's no where good, but for your own good.
