I know there's a ton of people that want this to be as faithful as possible, and I do love the original and will love this... but it won't ever be as exciting as it could be if I had a fresh new perspective (Or the eventual Persona 6).

I've been playing games since about the NES days and have gone through many a JRPG. The reason that say, FF7 Remake stood out to me is because it took a beloved game of my childhood and didn't give me just a prettier version of it.

I would still have loved that, of course... but it would have just been a one and done thing. I would be happy, and then probably forget about it as I move on to the next best thing. I love video games as much as I did back then but I want new experiences. For me, the most exciting games coming out in the next few months belong to that category. Granblue relink, 7 Rebirth, Like a dragon: Infinite wealth.

THEEESE are the games I'm most pumped for. P3 Reload will be a sick little interlude between all that. I do think it'll be worth the time. But it will still just be a footnote compared to the new.

I’m with you on all of that.

I wouldn’t get my hopes too high on Granblue, by the way. In preparation for the release, I looked into the series. Even going to far as to play the gatcha game. Honestly, it’s a mess. And the fighting games are a mess as well, with ridiculously priced DLC. Hopefully it’s good, but I’d be cautious in my optimism.

@chriss_m: I respect your passion. When I played this game for the first time it was on the PSP. The content was pretty compact and certain elements were removed in favor of just being able to fit all of the game into it. So this seems like a pleasant return to and it looks pretty good to be honest. I don't know what you mean about the "answer" but if its dlc I hope they do include it somehow. Not sure if its a day 1 purchase either... my backlog is casting a very long shadow.

I never played the PSP version for the reason you state. It was stripped down. I was never sure why the fanbase seemed to like it so much.

In re of the answer: I don’t know if you’re familiar with Persona 4 and 5, but both had re-releases in Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal. Both of these games weren’t *just* re-releases, they also provided a lot of additional story content, both during the games and also post-game. Persona 3 also had this in Persona 3 FES, in that there is a whole other 20-25 hour game with important canonical story that happens after the ending of 3. The game splits the story into the original Persona 3 which the game names ‘The Question’ and the post-Persona 3 content which the game calls ‘The Answer’. I don’t know if this was included in the PSP version, but my understanding is that it’s not being included in this release.

I’m a big Persona fan - since Persona 2 days. But I just can’t get particularly worked up about this. I will be buying it, but I won’t be lost in it.

It’s just Persona 3 but through a veneer of Persona 5. And apparently it’s not even the complete Persona 3 as it doesn’t include The Answer? Although not to worry, I’m sure we can buy it again next year when it’s released as Persona 3 Golden FES Royal The Answer Ultra HD edition.

And from this preview it sounds like it’s literally just the same experience as 3, but as discussed with some of 3’s uniqueness taken away in favour of Persona 5’s UI aesthetic. Oh, and also more added automation of tasks in case you ever get yourself too immersed in actually playing the game yourself. Wouldn’t want that.

@OrionMD: I’m surprised they left it open as well, and that they haven’t been heavily moderating comments. I think, somewhat ironically, it just kind of speaks to the point I made in my comment. I think the people currently being paid to run this site have literally more interest in their own Twitter accounts at this point. I would really think the parent company would want to intervene, but the monetisation must be doing okay because clearly there’s no alarm bells ringing for them.

Definitely some cogent observations here. Can tell, because it sparked an instant denial-whine-fest clownshow of "nuh uh!!!!" and "lalalalalalalalala I can't hear you!!!"

Socrates over here. Yeah, the more people disagree with something the more ‘cogent’ it is! No problems with that logic.

This has become utterly embarrassing. The managing editor is managing this place into the ground.

The ads are 2000s level intrusive, the content has jammed to a halt, they’re advertising a plethora of articles 8 years old, every second article is an ad, and now their opinion pieces are the worst kind of Twitter dross (it happens to be left wing, but if it was right wing it would just be as tedious).

I’m genuinely of the opinion that the senior leaders of this place have just completely given up. They must be shopping their CV’s around or something, because there’s no way anyone who’s paying attention lets an article of this quality get published.

What I don’t understand is why the parent company isn’t intervening. Maybe turning this place into a repository for adverts has made it more profitable.

Echo Review Gamespot = 5/10 (Phil Owen)

Echo Review IGN = 8/10 (HannaFlint)

... I'm going to have to go with Hanna on this one. Phil's reviews can be a little drunk.

(Side Note: IGN is tearing Phil apart in the comment section right now on the Echo review)

I am no fan of Phil Owen, but his opinion is more inline with the wider pool. I like Erik Kain at Forbes - his opinion is pretty much the same as Owen on this.

Square have latched on to every gimmick and trend. They’re constantly followers. It’s like there’s no real vision in the company.

The game was a total mess. A rehash of the first one with the awful story telling of the Miles Morales game. I mean it was truly tedious. Embarrassing, really.
