The ending was what was needed to preserve humanity. Only a coward would allow them to kill a little girl for a "supposed" cure. The cure was not a guarantee as the recordings you find in the game have shown. When mankind starts making excuses to kill other human beings you have the genocides, the experimentation on mankind, the cannibalism (shown in the game) and the murder for supplies without a conscience. What Joel did was not selfish, it was right and it was pure heartfelt and genuine humanity at it's core. Ellie brought Joel back to humanity and brought hope back into his life. That was her cure for mankind. Joel was the perfect hero and Ellie was the perfect cure for the plague that haunted the humanity in Joel.

Tom Mcshae is a goof. He spends more time trying to bad talk the character of Joel than talk about the great aspect of a game that has the best graphics and the most indepth story ever in gaming history. Tom obviously doesn't have a family or responsibilities since he does not understand the interaction between Joel and his daughter and just uses it a negative. Ignore his comments on the review and you will be better off.

This is the classic story of the everyday man who has lost so much trying to do the right thing and thrust into the role of a hero while not wanting to be a hero. These are the types of stories that are better than the typical arch-hero stories where the hero is the super being. Joel lost his daughter and he is hesitant to become close to Ellie because of that loss, yet he will come to defend her as he would have defended his daughter. This makes Joel a more complicated and fully created character who usually is absent in gaming stories. It also makes him one of the best characters to ever grace the gaming society.

@M3o5nster @Korvus85 You definitely got the interaction while the reviewers did not. Maybe because they are young and probably don't have a family to have those kind of interactions.

@Korvus85 @britannicus58 If you were paying attention--he asks her how she got the money for the birthday gift and she says "selling hard core drugs" and he JOKES "ok you can help pay the mortgage"--it was an example of a cool dad interacting with his daughter in a joking manner.

I think that Joel is one of the better characters to ever enter gaming. He is a guy who is forced to survive in a world that is plagued with hunters, who are killing innocents, and with infected. He is forced to do things that are not morally sound to survive and he lives in a time when your conscience is going to be tested time and time again.

The ridiculous comments, by these reviewers, about Joel coming home late making him a bad character shows that they are folks who do not have real jobs like most people who are fighting week in and week out just to make their bills.
