[QUOTE="bob_mckenzie15"][QUOTE="psychobrew"] Shutting a PC down used to be harder on the compnents than leaving it running. Putting it to sleep isn't a problem.psychobrew
Ok, I had heard that shutting a computer down was hard on the components. What about these days? Is it better to use sleep or shut down? Not that it maters, I'm obsessed and im gonna change the components out in 6 months anyway... : )

I leave my computer on during the day and shut down at night (mostly to keep Windows and other software running properly). I believe the issue before was a sudden jolt of voltage that came from powering the PC on and I think modern day power suplies and motherboards are more gentle because they use soft power on techniques (hard power on feeds full voltage immediately, soft power on gradually ramps up voltage and is more gentle). Still, components are delicate enough that static electricity can blow them out (which is why they are shipped in static proof bags and why you're supposed to be grounded to your PC when installing parts) and it's possible expansion and contraction from heating and cooling from powring on and shutting off can damage parts eventually. Sleep mode allows moving parts with a finite life to shut down while keeping some power to the electronics, but I don't think it makes too much of a difference anymore. It's not like you're going to keep the PC for 20 years.

Sounds good to me.

SSDs are really cool but a horrible investment, there performance degrades quickly and irreversibly.

Bigger=Better. As technology progresses you will eventually use that extra power.

"cyberpowerpc.com" Cheap and quality. I wouldn't reccomend building your own system your first time out. Experiment with upgrading and maybe build one your next time around, it can be frustrating if your new to it.

It would work for most games out there. It could use a graphcs card upgrade. It definately wont be running crysis on maxed settings, but it will get you from A to B. The one thing to consider is that tech is constantly changing, what maybe able to play the majority of games at decent settings may not be as effective 6 months from now. However, you can always upgrade. Honestly upgrading and working on my computer is the best part for me. As far as Starcraft 2 goes, check the sppecs. You want to meet the reccomended requirements.

Was on a gaming notebook for my deployment to iraq and medical training, now that i'm going home I just dropped about 2200 on a new desktop rig. I dont know what i'm more excited about, seeing my wife again or getting some alone time with my latest pc hotrod. Just kidding, please dont tell my wife.
