I will be glad to help:

1. Does anyone else feel like gaming and the internet have taken a particular toll on your social life?

Yes, no doubt. I would say that I personally spend about 2 hours on videogames and 3 hours on the internet (just surfing) every day, or every other day. However, this habituation derives from an extended break that I am having from college. When school starts again in September, I will only be gaming for two-three hours a week if I am lucky. As for the internet, I will be using it on a regular basis to check e-mails and do researches.

Right now, I am dodging my friends to play video games. There is only so much time during the day, so I have to cut back on other normal social activities.

2. If given a chance to define gaming 'addiction', how would you ****fy it? How many playing hours is a reasonable limit?

My definition of gaming "addiction" is when an individual plays an excessive amount of video games, resulting in the person neglecting the important priorities in life. 4 hours a day is a reasonable limit, in my opinion. Though that does seem like a whole lot.

3. Has any other part of your life been effected by gaming (ex: ****work, exams, corporate work)?

I am assuming that this question asks if gaming has negatively influenced my schoolwork? I certainly do believe so. Whenever you're doing a certain activity, there is always an opportunity cost. This means that if I spend time playing video games, I am not utilizing that time for productive work. I always imagined in my head that my college G.P.A. would have been a lot better had I never touched video games my whole life. Oh well, I don't care much for my G.P.A. anyways and am glad to have gaming as a hobby.

4. Do you know anyone else you feel may exhibit symptoms of gaming addiction?

I have had roommates that I thought played too much video games during the school year; but since they were naturally gifted intellectually, video games did not seem to have much adverse effects on them. So, video gaming was a very healthy recreation for them. Otherwise, I have not met much people that examplify such symptoms of gaming addiction.

I guess my responses have been very generic. I honestly believe I don't have an addiction, but I might be in denial. People who have any type of addiction will rarely admit it. Good luck with your research work.

((( x = Final Exam Score)))

.9(83) + .1(x) = 80

74.7 + .1(x) = 80

.1(x) = 5.3

.1(x) / .1 = 5.3 / .1

x = 53

Squeets

Hey Squeets, I was fascinated by your formula and I was chewing on it for awhile. The formula is based on proportions (or composite fractions of something, such as a whole unit of 1), so it does give a good estimate. However, it can be innacurate due to large variances. The proportion is based on a percentage scale, rather than an absolute scale. If we have an extreme case, where the absolute value of a test score plays a major factor, then the percentage formula heavily skews the estimates by either over-estimating or under-estimating. It is not as accurate to use, as say... using the value of 1595 points that the TC actually provided.

This discussion may seem trivial, but I am actually geeked up about it. It is quite entertaining for me, but if you guys don't want to chat about it, then you could just let the topic die. Thanks.

As a follow-up, even though you only need to fail with a miserable 50% to EARN a B- grade overall, that does not excuse you to slack off. Your teacher might grade you based on his impression of your efforts. So, even if your percentage is 80% overall for example, he might still give you a grade of D or C based on your performance during the final exam. This is due to the final exam being a comprehensive test of all the concepts you learned throughout the year; so your grade reflects heavily more on your final exam.

In other words, do some reviews/cramming and give it your best shot, regardless. Good luck with your exam!

So if I have a 83.6% in Math and my finals are 10% of my grade what would I need to keep a B??Almighty-mints

Let's see...

If you have 83%, that's approx. 4/5 of 1600 pts, so you have ~ 1280/1600.

If finals is 10%, that means 1600 + 160 = 1760 for total points.

For 80% of 1760 or about 4/5 of 1800 points, that's 1440 needed. 1440 minus 1280 equals 160 (160/160?????)

Awww... nevermind. Rough estimations using your head don't work.

Here... calculator: You need 70.6 out of 159.5 on your finals. Meaning you need at least 50% on your finals to get at least 80% overall, or a B-.

I am a student during the daytime.

During the night-time... male prostitute. My right hand is my only client, though.

This thread is kinda depressing.CanadianEh

Yeah, it is depressing. At the same time, it should make us be appreciative of how blessed we are.

This news is appalling, yes. Yet, I am somehow indifferent to the situation. I guess I am just desensitized to this type of news, since I used to read this type of headlines all the time (my web browser's homepage used to be cnn.com). Statistically, there are at least 6 billion people in this world, and on the normal curve scale, there are supposedly as much evil people as there are benevolent people. Well... not evil people, but misguided, ignorant souls that carry out evil deeds. I guess we can only learn to accept the fact that there is much hatred and impurities in this world.

What I despise about the news in the media in general is that they tend to focus too much on the negatives. However, it is very understandable since these types of news capture the audience's attention the best.

Good answer, fdsfgs. I just thought that the developers were aiming for much more realism this time around. Oh well, whatever... I still can't wait for Tuesday. Happy gaming!!!
