[QUOTE="Dave_NBF"]

[QUOTE="bluemantan"] 1440p eliminates the need for Anti-Aliasing. I found that the 6850, especially when over clocked, was capable of handling many games that I tried at Max Settings at Native Res without AA, including Skyrim, Assassins Creed 2 and BFBC2.no-scope-AK47

Didn't read the billion posts so this probably has already been addressed but I will address it again for you. U R Lion and U r Mad. I had an m18x Alienware notebook with an i72720, 8 gig ram, 750hd, TWO 6970M in CF on a 1080p screen and could NOT max BF3. I had to turn down the HBAO settings. There is NO way to max resolution of that monitor which is double the pixels of 1900x1080. Also the notebook I am referencing is a premium Alienware and cost 2400 dollars. I was upgraded for free due to problems to a 2760, faster ram, and 2 580M in SLI which are much better than the 6970s and there is NO WAY I would be maxing BF3 at your resolution. I get 40-50FPS maxed settings in BF3 multiplayer. Single player is higher but that is with 2 more powerful cards with better drivers than the 6970M.

Also, if you can get a tricked out notebook for 2400 that is only a 500 dollar difference. A pre-built DESKTOP PC with much better specs and GPU will run 1,000 all day. Buying a MAC to play those games is just plain stupid. If you are using a MAC for videos and editing and art then I think it's a good buy but then don't make a post talking about GAMING.

Wow your on point buying a Imac for gaming is a waste of money. The mad mac's can bash windows but we can even run osx or linux on our hardware that meets our needs with out a huge price. They have a good monitor but can not use it for games due to the gpu and that is just sad.

Well I did not mention BF3, as I do not own that game. All I am saying is that the 6970m is sufficient for 40fps average 1440p for skyrim assassins creed and bfbc2 maxed with no AA. I don't really personally care what artificial benchmarks say, I am speaking of personal experience.

not 500, its $1k. Does not have thunderbolt 2) Please build two rigs with 2560x1440 IPS displays that beat iMac for 1.9k and come back when done 3) BootCamptenaka2

Boot camp is not a solution if your in anyway serious about games. macs are nice but they are an insane choice for gaming unless wow is all you play.

Why is boot camp a bad solution? It is just like a native windows PC once you boot up.

Apple is accused of being overpriced, but the truth is that iMac 27" is actually very fairly priced, and an excellent gaming machine.

IPS 1440x2560 Display = $1000

i5-2400 3.1GHz = $180

6970m (Equivilent to 6850) = $150

PSU = $60

Casing = $100

4GB ram = $30

1TB 7200RPMHard Drive = $125

Motherboard = $100

Keyboard/Mouse = $100

Speakers = $25

HD Webcam = $30

One-Year warranty = complimentary

Total = $1900

Amazon sells the iMac for $1910.

This goes to show that apple is not as over priced as people think. You also get an OS which I would value at atleast $100, for free.

When you break it down, iMac's are premium and reasonably priced computers, even more-so than PC's.

Ondoval

1) The Dell U2711 display has exactly the same resolution and size (well, both panels are made by LG) and cost around 500 $. The Dell has also superior connectivity.

2) iMac 27 is subpar in terms of gaming, for 1900 $ you can uild TWO gaming rigs capable to wipe the floor with the iMac 27 in terms of graphics and performance.

3) The main problem with Apple's desktops isn't the price, is the lack of games (a very important feature in a game forum as his).

1) Dell u2711 is not 500, its $1k. Does not have thunderbolt 2) Please build two rigs with 2560x1440 IPS displays that beat iMac for 1.9k and come back when done 3) BootCamp

rig you can build for $1615 that will max out any game on the market currently

What an idiot... Throw in a u2711 for $1k and the PC is more expensive, while not any faster in terms of graphics and only 10% faster in terms of CPU speed.

It's using laptop parts anyway. A 6970M playing video games at that resolution? haha oh wow....fail harder

PC4lifeman2233
Your point? 6970m is only laptop part, and I priced the equivalent desktop part (6850 $150) in OP. SO for PC Gamers, 920k Pixels to 2m Pixels is a godsend, but 2m to 4m does not matter?

And how many people can tell the difference between an IPS and TN panel?markop2003
Fairly noticeable. And IPS isn't the only benefit, there is also twice as many pixels as 1080p with 1440p

I could get a 55inch LED 1080p for less....Spartan070
With what kind of pixel density? Not nearly as sharp as the iMac. Not to mention, comparing 1080P to 1440P? 1440P has twice as many pixels.

[QUOTE="bluemantan"][QUOTE="GD1551"]

Well despite this being a troll thread, I went to check out if it was true. Low and behold it's not, although I could only find a 24inch IPS.

Processor - i5 2500k ($225)

Ram - 8gigs RipJaws ($47)

GPU - 7950 ($470 + Dirt 3 free!)

HDD - 1TB Cavier Black ($130)

Mobo - Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P ($190)

Case/PSU - Corsair Obsidian 650D + 850W PSU ($350)

Monitor - Dell Ultrasharp 24inch IPS ($545)

OS - Windows 7 64bit ($100)

Mouse/KB - Razr Deathadder ($60), Logitech backlight gaming keyboard ($62)

Total - 2180.

Now the thing is here, I wasn't even trying to save money. If I wanted I could save 200 off the GPU and get a better one than the 6850 (560ti or 6870), I could get a lesser mobo for 160 that does the same thing, I could get a cheaper case and less extravagant PSU (since neither is needed) and save off another 120, get cheaper kb + mouse and save well over 80 dollars. The thing is, if I did that it would easily be cheaper than the iMac but why spend so much money for such inferior parts? The IPS monitor is definitely not needed.

What bout the Dell u2711?

Are you going to pay 500 dollars for 3 inches? on top of that it wasn't listed on newegg when I checked.

It is twice as many pixels. Roughly 2 million for 1080P and 4 million for 1440p. HUGE difference. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260038

[QUOTE="lundy86_4"]

The only good thing is the inclusion of the monitor.

This pre-built is better. Couple that with a lovely 24-inch monitor and you're golden.

The price isn't all that bad for a pre-built with the inclusion of a monitor. Though i'd be averse to using a mobility radeon, unless their drivers have increased in quality significantly. I used to have to use custom drivers for my old gaming laptop.

A custom built will blow that out of the water for a reduced cost.

MonsieurX

This pre-built sucks so much. Would be a good deal if it was 1000$ less,and even at that price...

For once,I'd say it's not a bad deal,if you really like Apple.

The 27" monitor is close to 1000$ itself

Grab a 27" Dell ultrasharp + this combo and it's close

Fairly close. Throw in a mouse, keyboard, OS and its even. Sure there is tradeoffs, being that the PC has a slightly better GPU while the iMac has a more compact form and such.
