Depending on who you ask cloud computing has lots of different definitions and it will depend on how technical you are as to how much you understand. As cloud computing finds its feet it will become more defined but for now people are still just learning about it and it’s still fairly new to the business world. This isn’t technically correct, cloud computing has actually been around for years but it’s only the last year or two that’s it’s really starting to pick up steam to the point where it’s becoming mainstream and almost essential for anyone serious about their business.

Cloud computing and cloud hosting is basically there to make your IT more efficient and reduce costs. This is done through server virtualization. Server virtualization is the process of making your servers virtual, you take all the data and information you normally keep on your physical servers and store it all at a remote location. Instead of your own little in house data center the virtual servers are housed in much larger data centers so you no longer have to bother with yours. You no longer have to spend your time and energy powering and cooling your data center. Depending on how big your data center is this alone could bring in significant cost savings.

There’s also a lot more savings you’re going to see. The server space you’re saving is going to be significant as you don’t have to space for server space if you’re not actually using it. You’ve always had to keep that space free just in case you did suddenly need it but you never actually did and you still had to pay for it. Gservers.Org is always there if you need it in the cloud but you don’t start paying for it unless you actually need it. The second you need some extra space it’s there waiting for you and that’s when you start paying for it and if you no longer need it you stop paying for it.
