These are predictions? March has come and gone. Where are the hard numbers?degeneraz

I think NPD comes out Friday (that is when the March futures on the simExchange stop trading).  We will know then.  I got a bunch of contracts on PS3 US March 2007.  I think February was unexpectedly low for the PS3 (an outlying statistic).

the predictions look almost like a copy of last month. (but with less DS)

Ontain

They are pretty close to February.  Lazard predicts that March sales were flat.  Webush Morgan I think predicts 3% growth.

The simExchange now has monthly NPD predictions .

Current forecasts for March 2007 are:

Nintendo DS: 490K units

Nintendo Wii: 380K units

Xbox 360: 228k units

PlayStation Portable: 178k units

Playstation 3: 142k units

God of War II is top game with 1.14 million copies sold

If you think the prediction is too low, you buy, if you think the prediction is too high, you sell. It is free to play.

How many units do you think each console will sell?

Webush Morgan's Michael Pachter expects the tide to shift to the Xbox 360 in early 2009 and then the PS3 in late 2009.

The simExchange is still forecasting the Wii to lead this generation, check out the console wars page. They started trading monthly predictions, but only US March 2007 monthly sales are up now. Hopefully they will list futures for months extending out further in the future then we can get better predictions on when or if the Wii will be overtaken by the PS3 or Xbox 360.

Check out this Next Gen Console Wars page of charts based on the trading game's data. The coolest chart is the one comparing how each console's sales prediction changes over time. There is also a chart for market share and total volume of consoles sold by the end of the generation.

The Wii is currently predicting to lead this generation in terms of global unit sales.  If the past sales data so far isn't convincing, look at the next gen console wars charts based on trading on the simExchange .  These forecasts aren't based on just the opinion of one analyst or some hundred vote survey, this is based on the aggregated information of thousands of gamers on a prediction market.

Wii Play? #1 in North America?

I swear these casuals/non-gamers buying the Wii are really ruining the industry and a game like that sells like that.

It just doesn't make sense. In NA the #1 selling game this week for Xbox 360 is Guitar Hero 2 (which is understandable). In NA the #1 selling game for PS3 is Oblivion (which is understandable because its a great game), but Wii Play? Come on...

Shadow2k6

Wii Play was always expected to be a huge seller before it was even released. Wii Play's game stock has always been trading above a 4 million global sales prediction . Why? Because it is basically buying an extra controller (which most Wii players will do), then shelling out a mere $10 for some minigames that show you more of what the Wii-mote can do. Most of these buyers are likely just wanting another controller to play with their friends but then think, some minigames for $10? Why not?  Wii Play sales likely have no impact as a substitute for other games--so I think it would be incorrect to conclude that the product will take away sales from "real" games and "ruin the industry"

[QUOTE="arbiter1024"]The global sales prediction for the PS3 had been climbing after a strong first week of sales in Europe. However, PS3 sales dropped 82% in the second week in the UK and is now causing a drop in the overal lifetime forecast. The PS3 is now predicted to sell 52.67 million units globally, under the Xbox 360 again . We know that supply is not constrained in the UK. I believe this is warranted because such a significant drop in the second week of sales is a strong indicator of actual demand.

You do realize that all console drop after launch, that is the norm, especially a launch that was so plentiful, and of course the U.K doesnt represent the entire world for sales or even Europe for that matter. its still selling fine in Europe, you cant expect each sales week to be a launch record breaking sales week. Oh and according to your link of the PS3's total sales being 52.67, you do realize that they have the 360 at 52.32. So even by your uncredible source they have the PS3 winning.

The simExchange predictions are based on aggregating information from thousands of gamers through market trading...so in theory it should be the most credible prediction. If you are not aware of prediction markets, you should read this article on Wikipedia . The Xbox 360 prediction may be lower now because these predictions are based on market trading, so they change minute to minute as news is priced into the prediction. I would bet that by the end of the day, the Xbox 360 will close higher than PS3.
