Depends on the game. Provided you don't create a conflict, or take part in one, mostly you'll be fine. Can be a problem in Gears, where there are only 8 people and therefore any hating is more concentrated. In Gears you can't use the chainsaw or grenades. Or the shotgun, the pistol, rolling or cover. And you ABSOLUTELY cannot kill anyone, and if you do you're at fault. :)
Mine's 7 months old or so, and I've no problems to report other than a brief spell of the red lights after my bro tried to connect it to our projector.
As a 360 owner, I am a biased idiot. But if you do go for a 360, unless you're an American (and therefore have a decent Internet connection) go with a wired connection.
I love my 360: good spread of games, bright future and great friend support (IMO).

I've also been looking for a new HDTV, and think I have settled upon the Samsung LE32R88BD(X). To my knowledge, the models you mentioned are of the same general model (LE##R##BDX), so the differences between the 87 and the 88 would be minimal. With this particular range, the higher the number the better as the 88 model was released most recently. Basically, if they are the same price, go for the 88.
And sorry, no ideas about the other question. Hope this was helpful, but I am by no means a technical expert.
