Always hated Origin. From my account being hacked by Russians (true story, go for passwords more than 8 chars regardless of complexity) to really lousy interfaces (BF3/MoH Origin->Web Browser->Game .. crash anyone??).
Now a new reason to hate Origin. Lack of capacity to handle always online connectivity and DRM.
Funny how they are always more than willing to give 15% discount for the NEXT game which I will apparently reluctantly buy. It's like admitting your mistakes, then trying to bribe someone to keep shut.
Ubisoft's games like AC failed big time on PC because of it's requirement to be online ALL THE TIME. Now they're backtracking and admitted their mistakes. Lovely to have a feature to play nice with friendly neighbors, but unfortunately the world is a cruel place. Please bring back the single player! I wanna be able to play games I bought even when I'm in a place with no internet access!!
Everyone's looking for a one-size-fits-all solution. I don't think such a solution exists. This problem is so intractable given the extremes of opinions I just wanna bury my head in the sand.
Dunno about those numbers. Of those 60% that say they won't get a console that bans used games, how many will cave in to temptation if the console has a really good exclusive, e.g. Halo or Uncharted?
Perhaps the situation will be less an issue if Gamestop and other resellers gave a cut for each used game they sell back to the dev studio?
The first set of ops was so-so. The same enemies just kept popping up out of nowhere about 3-4 times on the same map, became very frustrating and didn't make much sense. Felt like a multiplayer experience with lots of bots. Lots.
The new set however, is exhilarating. It's like playing a campaign mission now and you actually get to feel like you are progressing; you have objectives that make sense and you proceed through different locations.
And yes, I completely disagree that it requires Xbox Live. Shame.
This topic was a consideration for the granting of the R18+ game rating in Australia. Articles were thrown about stating no links to violence from games leaking to real life, others saying there's no evidence, but these all done in limited studies. If the US govt is willing to fund a full blown research into this, then all the better to get a definitive assessment. Unfortunately, a proper assessment may not (and should not) come for years.
In the end the R18+ rating was recently approved. The focus is now on proper controls for ensuring that kids do not get their hands on violent games at such an impressionable age. Responsibility lies with the parents and the retailers selling these things. Oh yeah - and education. My cousins gave my 10yo nephew God of War 3 for christmas because it was all the rage. Had to tell his dad to keep it hidden because .. it featured "boobs" ;)
