I've had it for a week and I'm about 6 hours into it. I tend to play things slowly just so I can do everything, see everything. At the very beginning I was typically confused albit. However it's a new kind of RPG that implores a random way at leveling up your stats, your spells, your level, your ultimate attacks. It took me awhile to figure this out, even after reading the manual 5 times over. The dodging with the square & blocking with the triangle was also a nice addition. It makes it more Kingdom Hearts-ish in a real time battle system, rather than a simple turn based with goofy mechanics thrown in. That in a sense makes it much more progressive than most other RPG's I've played or read about.
So far I'm on the 3rd assignment and I've got to say I love it. I've never played the original FF7 on the PS1, or any other FF7 compliation for that matter. The only other FFs I've played are FFX, FFX-2, & FFXII; all 3 are my favorite RPGs along with KH1 & 2. So this was a fresh of breath air. The only criticism I have for it is when you enter into the larger, round areas you'll always encounter a monster fight. & I suppose I would've liked a few more things to do when you're wandering around Midgar. In one instance they have multiple dead ends at pathways just for scenery, apparantly. Also I've given up on blocking, seeing as dodging proves much more effective in any situation.
All in all the game's an AA for me. Usually for some people you need to give the game some time. It's not the developers fault if you don't understand how to play after the first few minutes; it will be though, if after a few hours.
