Actually, my original PS2 just crashed recently, after a close to 7 year run. I obught mine at launch and it had a wonderfun life span, no complaints here, just bought a silver PS2 Redesign and i love it!!
All of you are selling the PS2 too short. Games like FFXII and Smackdown! vs. Raw 2007 showed without a doubt the capabilities that the PS2 still has. Not to mention God of War II that is still a pretty fresh release and is a freakin awesome game. Then there are Manhunt 2, Smackdown! vs. Raw 2008, and Guitar Hero 3 among many other games that are STILL to be released for the PS2. With the outrageous price tag on the PS3 and still pricy tag on the 360, the PS2 still has pull with so many gamers. Not to mention a good number of PS3/360 games are still being ported to PS2 systems. The PS2 is just now reaching its full potential and it is very unlikely developers will overlook the PS2 fanbase so easily. It will almost certainly be around at least for the rest of this year, and I suspect a bit into 2008 before developers completely move on. Granted the PS2 is not one of the next gen system and will not be in the main running, the little console still has alot of fight left for the time being.
