Yo i'm buying a new computer at some point and i plan on buying the x48 platinum motherboard. So i need to know these things:

  • Can it support 2 4870x2's?
  • Can it support x-fi sound cards and crap like that?
  • Is it true that it supports BOTH ddr2 and 3 ram? (2 slots ddr2(800mnz max) 4 slots ddr3(1600mhz max)
  • can it support the intel e8500 dual core?

One last question: how many watts do i need in my powerbox to support all this plus the usual stuff?

I MUST KNOW NOW!

Here it is at last ladies and gentlemen! THE 4870x2!

That's TWICE the power of a 4870! I just wish it were cheaper!

But what kind of thread would this be without PICTURES!

Under the plastic!

So here's what you've all been waiting for! BENCHMARKS!!!

And finally: *drumroll* CRYSIS!

Here's the hardware used for the benchmarks:

CPU

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 @ 3.20GHz

Motherboard

EVGA nForce 790i SLI
Intel DX48BT2

Video Cards

ATI Radeon HD 4850
ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2
ATI Radeon HD 3870
EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX KO
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260

Video Drivers

Catalyst Press Driver (8.7 beta)
Catalyst 8.5
ForceWare 177.34 (for GT200)
ForceWare 177.39 (for 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+)
ForceWare 175.16 (everything else)

Hard Drive

Seagate 7200.9 120GB 8MB 7200RPM

RAM

4 x 1GB Corsair DDR3-1333 7-7-7-20

Operating SystemWindows Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1
PSUPC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 1200W

Here's the wattage data:

So that's about it.

And to conclude this post here's the VITAL INFO!

  • The RRP will be a maximum of $500

  • It will be released in theUnited States by the end of augustandworldwide by the end of september.

  • It istwice as powerful as a4870 inevery way.

  • It will cost a maximum of$200 more than the4870.

  • It will require a maximum of 407 watts to run one.

  • It can do an average 40 fps on maximum possible settings in crysis.

  • It requires aPCI-E 2.0 compatible motherboardto run, but having pcie 2.0 enables faster data throughput.

  • It is crossfire-compatible(you can have 2 of them inside 1 computer)

  • It has dual GPU's, (2x RV770XT) just like the 9800gx2.

  • It scores6532 in 3Dmark vantage; extreme settings.the280 GTX, nvidia's most powerful card, scores only4726. (1806+ over 280gtx) (to give you an idea how fast this is, the8800gtscores only1737)

  • It costs$210 lessthan theGTX 280 ($710rrp),and ismore powerful.

  • It consumes93.8 more wattsthan theGTX 280.

  • Having 2 GTX 280's in SLI costs $1420whereas having2 x2's in crossfire costs $1000 at the most, but will consume814 watts.

  • The drivers used to test the 4870x2 above arebeta drivers, which means theframe-rate will be faster in the retail versiononce the correct drivers are installed.

  • It will be the most powerful single card solution once released.

  • Nvidia MAY (NOT saying it will) be eliminated from the "graphics wars" unless they immediately slash their prices to compete with ATI.

I really REALLY hope you found this thread informative. :D It took me a lot of time and effort. :D The benchmarks are from http://www.anandtech.com/Here's a link to the article

I'm looking for a monitor that has the standard input, as well as rwy (Red white yellow) input so i can play my ps2 on it as well as pc.

It would be nice if it cost less than $310 and is available in australia. :D

But i i bought a little duel core, it wouldn't exaclty be 10/10 wouldnt it? and just $200 is extremely reasonable for a quad.

as for mouse, screen etc, i have an old 16 inch crt laying around that should still work, plus it has i higher refresh rate than most lcds which means higher frame rates without tearing!

i could just but any old mouse, keyboard etc.

the os will be my old copy of winxp.

I plan on buying a second gpu when they become super cheap.
