hey - i just bought an xbox 360 elite and i have some questions

In outskirts, there always seems to be like a tan outline in the sky of the buildings that were in front of me at the last checkpoint (although it sometimes happens at random times when there is no checkpoint). whats the deal with this? it doesnt go away. this also happens when i die at metropolis.

 also halo 2 has frozen in split screen - this may be normal im not sure.

please help me out with what causes these problems and ways to fix them

also - the 2 black elite controllers i have have squeaky shoulder buttons - can i lubricate them?
