I aggree with you, but heres something: Currently the Nintendo DS has outsold the PSP nearly 2:1, with 38 million sales vs 20 million. If this trend continues, then by the time the DS sells 100 million, will the PSP reach 50 million? If yes, then I doubt the PSP is a failure like many people seem to claim.

Too bad it doesn't work that way in real life. Sales aren't constant and retailers have been threatening to remove the PSP from their store shelves. There is no way the PSP will have a chance at 50 million unless there is a drastic change. In comparison, the DS Lite has a chance to reach that number because it is selling out and it's difficult to find one.

Threatening to remove the PSP from store shelves? I haven't heard about this, can I have a link to that? I do know the PSP is shipping less. But removed from shelves?

So far, the PS2 has the crown of high sales, since it sold 113 million consoles, and to this day still sells about as much as an Xbox 360. Since the PS3 is struggling and has just around 1.5% of the PS2 market size, so it looks like Sony will not give up on the PS2 anytime soon. I would assume the PS2 will sell 140 million by the time is discontinued. The PS1 has sold about 102 million.

As for now, which console will be the next to reach over 100 million consoles and eventually de-thone the PS2? I assume it will be the Wii, butin order for that to happen, that console needs more third party support than it has right now. I assume the DS might reach that same about (yeah I know its a handheld, but it still applies).

Your thoughs?

Dear lord...one of the biggest failures? Its one of the biggest successes. Pocketstation, Game.com, Neogeo Pocket & Pocket Color, Wonderswan and Wonderswan Crystal, N-Gage, Gizmondo, any GamePark system...all are bigger failures.Runningflame570
The PSP stole about 35% of Nintendo's handheld market share (38 million DS sales vs 20 million PSP sales). Sony is the ONLY handheld manufacturer that even got that close.

The ps3 is doing good considering that its a 600 dollar system.Soulja_West
True. Imagine if Microsoft or Nintendo tried to market a console at that price.

The PSP sold 20 million in 2 years

The Xbox 1 sold 24 million in 3 years

The GameCube sold  22 million in 5 years

I don't see how the PSP can be a "failure" when the sales speed is HIGHER than the Xbox 1 and GameBube. The N-Gage is so much worse than ANY of these machines.

behold, the DS pulled a startling coup and ruthlessly beat the PSP into the ground handing Sony a rather embarassing beating .

I dont think anybodies ever had the tables turned on them to this extent.

DS sold 38 million PSP sold 20 million. It is not even 2:1 ratio yet. I dont see it "ruthlessly beating" the PSP unless it sells 5:1 (which the PS2 did to Xbox 1 and GameCube)
