[QUOTE="TheDuffman26"]2x 5770's will perform better and cost less than a single 5870. I would do that.hartsickdiscipl
The reviews I've looked at have very inconsistent performance from Crossfired 5770's when compared to the 5850 or 5870. Just from looking at the specs you can reason that they are not better in CrossfireX than a single 5870. It's actually bizarre that the 5770 in Crossfire ever outperforms the 5870, when you consider that they are based off the same architecture, and:
Each 5770 = 800 stream processors (so 2 have 1600 together). The 5870 has 1600 by itself.
Core clock of standard 5770 is equal to standard 5870 (850mhz)
2 x 5770's actually has much less memory bandwidth than 1 5870, since you only get the effective memory bandwidth of one of the cards in CrossfireX or SLI.
So if you do basic math, 2 x 5770 is NOT better than 1 5870.. but yet there we see the 5770's winning some of the benchmarks (and losing some).
All signs point to a single 5870 outperforming the 5770's in Crossfire. I suspect some sort of driver limitations holding the 5870 back, or maybe even a bottleneck at the PCI-E 2.0 bus since the 5870 only gets to use 1 slot?
Yeah it's somewhat even. 5770 crossfire @ $330 and 5870 @ $410. Take your pick I guess.
