I worked at one for about a year during college. The only reason I got the job there was because I sold the store manager a television at a discount at my prior job and he loved me for giving him a steep discount on a floor model. There is no formal training, so be knowledgeable about the games that GS deems popular for that marketing period. The registers are relatively simple to use, but not without their annoying quirks. Employees will be hit and miss for you. At my branch we had a senior game advisor and an assistant branch manager that constantly stole from the branch and blamed it on the game advisors, and even fired the "perpetrators" over it.The branch manager was barely there, and when he was he was constantly on his cell phone yelling at "his woman". He quit and was replaced by a 18 year old from out of state who looked like he was 12 and spoke with a lisp. I was fired for not respecting his "management style" of berating both customers and employees alike over their tastes and preference of console. He managed to fire 5 of the staff in the span of 3 weeks because of the way he managed.
Be prepared for angry parents and irate teenagers who will make up the majority of your clientele. Parents will **** and moan that you didn't sell their precious little five year old angel an M rated game, because they are too busy being horrible parents. Teens will annoy you about minute details about every game that they deem bro-tastic and bad-ass.
You will also be required to cross sell GS's redundant and otherwise useless products, such as magazine subscriptions and will be required to get an unnecessarily high percentage of customers to preorder a product. I may sound like a jaded ex employee, but ask anyone who worked there for an extended period of time about working there, and they will give the same basic description as I do. It isn't the worst place to work, but it certainly isn't good.
