[QUOTE="navyguy21"]it doesnt matter how many billions any company loses, once they post a PROFIT (revenue - liabilities) it doesnt matter. Even if they posted a 1 dollar profit, it would meant that they have overcome all debt, and posted a profit. Geez dude :PMortalDecay

They didn't overcome all debt, the Xbox still hasn't made a profit overall. The original Xbox lost $4 billion dollars in 4 years.

Let's see your link that Xbox is still in the red.

Hmm, why don't you go to Forbes and check for yourself? How about you give me a link saying Microsoft has made back those billions they lost on the Xbox like Forbes says?

Dude, you are really fighting a losing battle lol -

"During the first quarter of fiscal 2007, this division reported a $142 million loss; this time around, the division made $165 million, making this the first quarter this area of Microsoft's business has been in the black since back in 2005. The Entertainment and Devices division took in $1.93 billion in revenue this quarter, up a staggering 90.8 percent from last year's $1.01 billion."

:|

*sigh* Yes, I know they made a profit for the first time. I'm saying that they still have to make up the losses from the Xbox to be OVERALL profitable.

[QUOTE="Blue-Sky"]

But that doesn't make sense. I hope you're not adding loses from past fiscal years :?

Blue-Sky

All I'm saying is that since the original Xbox was released up until now with the 360 they are still at a loss. I mean, these articles you people are posting are talking about million dollar profits but Xbox lost billions. It still has a way to go to make a profit overall.

There is no "overall" It doesn't "stack" beyond fiscal years. There is no "debt" You're saying as if they have to make back the money they lost a few fiscal years ago. Thats not how it works. You're either operating for a profit or a loss.

Just about every upstart company losses money in the begining. Thats the sacrifice people have to take to start a business. If I were combine all the loses in the past for every company, they all be "red"

I agree, so what is wrong with me saying that the Xbox brand still hasn't made a profit overall since 2001?

Look at the title.

Xbox can't go profitable without making a profit.

MortalDecay

"$524 million in income over the past six months, compared to $423 million in losses over the same period last year."

That's what it says. That says nothing about Overall profit of the Xbox brand. What don't you get about this?

What don't you get about them being profitable NOW? Is it really that hard to understand? Your quote even proves my point. They made up for their losses the previous year, plus. It's a shame we can't say the same for Sony.

Yes, for the previous year. You do know they lost $4 billion dollars on the Xbox, right?

I believe their Entertainment division is operating in the black.

That's correct. They are making money each quarter now but overall they are still in the red.

I have been reading on the internet that Microsoft lost billions and billions of dollars on the Xbox. These same articles say that the Xbox was never profitable for Microsoft. Here is a link:
http://www.joystiq.com/2005/09/26/forbes-xbox-lost-microsoft-4-billion-and-counting/

Is this true?Or are these articles inaccurrate?

Blue-Sky

The Xbox is still in the red even with the Xbox 360. That's why I laugh every time people say something about how much money Sony has lost on the PS3. They don't realize that the Playstation brand is profitable and the Xbox brand still hasn't made a profit.
