I couldn't agree more. For some reason Americans like to have spoilers for all of their entertainment before they experience it. This completely ruins the story and any excitement one would get from a plot twist, a wtf moment, or just experiencing the story the way it was intended. This is why I avoid movie trailers too. This trend has clearly worked its way into video game reviews as well. Imagine reading a book when you know what will happen at the end. You'll probably want to put the book down and never finish it. Gameplay mechanics should be the primary focus in video game reviews, perhaps comparing how the game feels to similar games in the genre; we should never be given the synopsis of any form of entertainment before experiencing it. We might as well just watch some movie we already saw, or played some game we used to like, or watch some episode of Sunny that once made us laugh. Not very fun. You'll most likely never find a new game that will be remembered in your mind as a classic if you've seen spoilers before playing it. The game will just turn out average at best :/

I only played the second one. I can see why people enjoy it and I can clearly see the high production value in the level design, graphics, and cutscenes. However, the gameplay I found wasn't totally stellar. Go cover to cover, pop up, shoot enemies with weapons that aren't all that satisfying. Rinse and repeat. Short platforming section, more shooting enemies, more platforming.All of this though is in a linear level design.It seemed to drag on and on.

The platforming for me didn't seem too exciting. Different games for different folks I guess!

Call of Duty 2 I had the most fun with. So epic. Masterful single player, and in online you actually felt like you accomplished something when you killed someone. Infinity Ward made that one I believe.

Anyways, I bet you could pick it up for like $5 on ebay.I just don't know if it would stand the test of time...I sure hope it would. Veteran mode was challenging and engaging, but never felt cheap.

I really enjoyed Fable 2. My favorite part was going around and buying all the property. What I would have liked is for it to be a little more difficult to buy property though. For example, in Oblivion I had to go around to each town and find that one house where I wanted to live in, because of budget constraints, that's all I could afford. In Fable 2, my indecision isn't an issue because I can buy the whole world.

Another thing I would have liked was for the camera to be a little closer. It would be more immersive. Fun game. I agree that there is far too much hate.

KOTOR 1 and 2 make me happy inside. Twists and turns and so engaging! Unlike that chore Mass Effect.

Fallout 3. I was really looking forward to this after how much I enjoyed Oblivion. Instead they took away the awesome fantasy setting and sweet beautiful towns with rivers running through and replaced it with grey. Lots of grey. Why? And now New Vegas is coming out? Give me more Elder Scrolls.

[QUOTE="zombehhhh"]

I know that, but just the fact that I'm still getting charged because all the zombies buy this stuff so everything else gets overpriced.

Tripleseed

I know what you're talking about zombehhhh and I do agree with you. This whole "micro-transaction" thing is a joke and is only going to get worse due to how popular it is. Chances are, all the dorks on these forums who aren't a bit miffed by it aren't because they use their parent's credit cards to pay for this stuff and don't spend their own money on it.

The worst thing I have done this gen is download each map pack for World at War, which are priced at $10 each, simply to obtain three new zombie maps because I love that mode. Granted, I feel as if I've gotten my moneys worth out of them, but still, 10 bucks for a new map is a bit ridiculous. Sadly, there's not much to be done about it beyond simply choosing not to download the extra content. I do feel like a fool at times when I buy shirts off the "Avatar Marketplace" to get rid of the 80 odd points that I can't spend on anything else, but hey, that's life. 80 MSP is only like a buck or so anyhow? Haven't bought a $5 set of virtual armor yet, gladly, and that ODST armor in my sig I got from an achievement.

I completely agree. This whole DLC craze is getting out of hand. I feel as though developers are intentionally releasing things later just to charge 800 MS points later on.

Recently I wanted to play Halo 3 again, but couldn't because I was forced to buy 2 new map packs for 800 MS points a piece. All the good playlists were disabled because I didn't own these maps. This is greed at its highest level. There is no reason to take away features from launch. There is no good reason why I can't just play a playlist without these maps included. DLC does seem to be getting out of hand and I doubt it's stopping any time soon.

I remember with Halo 2 the map packs were free after a few months. I thought this would happen with Halo 3 but instead they are forcing people to buy them if they want to continue to play in matchmaking online. This is not the step in the right direction.

This is a really interesting thread and some great points were made, but I don't see anyone listing any of these indie games with great innovation. The only game people have talked about is Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

What other games are out there for people looking to change things up?
