I was just thinking, what are the current "classic" songs that we will hear on the oldies station in 30 years? Lady Gaga? :? Justin Beiber? :o Seriously, there doesn't seem to be anything of any real quality.

hoola

I think this is a very good point. Much of the music that I hear on the radio I can only really descibe as "recycled." I mean, it's pleasing to listen to, and when other people want to blast it during a car ride I don't have a problem with it, but it's not breaking any new ground; it's similar to being addicted to a drug. Instant pleasure; creativity and progression be damned.

That's why I don't see the vast majority of the music we hear today adequately surviving into future decades. Sure, a few of these songs we'll hear every once and a while, purely for the sake of nostalgia, but they really don't stand the test of time otherwise. If you consider the songs from decades past that are well known and still make radio play, they are truly a minimal portion of all the music that was introduced at the time. Just think back five years. Can you remember all the radio hits, and hot songs from the time? Only a couple from even then have survived this long.

Ultimately the level of buzz a song or artist recieves upon initial impact is not indicative of how well they will age. These catchy radio songs are going to be washed away, and the musical imprint from this era will be weathered down to what was truly solid, and what pushed things into new directions.

yeah, I can sort of relate in a way. Usually I'll be thinking of something seemingly random, and then within a few minutes the thing I was thinking about will manifest in reality.

It doesn't happen too often, though usually around springtime it starts occurring more frequently. I couldn't tell you why though :P

Rancid, Mastodon, and Agalloch are the ones I can think of off the top of my head

regular and flamin hot taste like crap, but the jalapeno ones they had out a while ago were definitely addicting. actually, it seems that whenever cheetos puts out a special flavor its like 100 times better than anything else

I just had huge dinner, so it's basically a question of which one I think I could take a bite out of without throwing up. that would be the whopper :)
