Who cares about what console sells the most, If you aren't going to see the money why worry? As long as they make quality games and support the console, that's all that matters in the long run.BreakingPoint8
Although we don't see the money, we see it in the games and exclusives that are released for that particular system. Take for example you have console X and console Y. Console X has 10 million units in households while console Y only has a meager 1 million units in households. If I am developer Z, I will develop a game for a system that I know will be able to provide me with sales numbers that are as high as possible. In this case, I will develop the game for console X. Number of consoles sold matters a great deal in this business because without the numbers, there is no support. No support, you have a smaller list of "quality games" to choose from. So what matters most is the number of consoles sold. Quality games and support follows from that.
In actual terms, console X is the 360 and console Y is the PS3. Although the numbers that I quoted are NOT actual sales numbers, the statement holds true according to economic theory. Maximization of profits. You can't do that selling a game on a lower install based console.
However, the PS3 really has no reason to "catch up" to the Wii anyways because of how different both systems approach gaming. The only thing is that the Wii is relatively cheap to develop for when compared to the PS3 and Xbox360. That might be one of the draws for the Wii.
