Gates was a firm believer in that theory, and to some point, that theory still stands. But, don't forget that such systems have to be a lot more powerful than Xbox one and PS4, and Microsoft and Sony are already loosing money on the hardware by selling their consoles at these prices as their plan is to gain money on software selling and various other things. Take a look at the Steam platform hardware, now that system has some SERIOUS power. But just make a rough calculation of that hardware and you will get some mind blowing numbers.

I know, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Xbox 360 also had some connector by which you could attach your keyboard and mouse to it. But the fact still stands, options like these really bring up the questions about the practicality and purpose of the consoles. Not that I don't like the consoles, I just don't have enough money to have both, PC and a Console.

Well look it from this pov... Adding mouse and keyboard support brings the consoles a step closer to PCs... Now, let's do some quick math. The price of Xbox will be ~$500. The fact that is so frequently ignored is price of a TV to which your console is connected.. Ok, it's 2013, almost every home has a TV. But if you don't want to add the full price of your TV to the grand total, let's add 30% or 50% of it, which would be somewhere around 100-300$ (this numbers can go even higher, but let's stick to the lower price range). So, $500 for the console + 50% of a TV gives a rough range of 600-800$. For that money, you can buy a really good PC, or a mid-top PC and solid 24" monitor (and still enjoy the graphics that are equal or better than graphics on Xbox one).

I'm sure that this may not be logical to many console users, but it's just my personal opinion.
