Glad GameSpot had to swallow their pride and acknowledge Hogwarts Legacy's sales figures. No one gives a hoot about JKRs personal beliefs or "problematic" depictions within the game. People want fun, engaging games that are authentic to the source material and the numbers prove it. The Harry Potter series changed the world. Gamespot writers are guaranteed to be forgotten.
@mogan: Plus the show remains a water cooler topic for much longer when we get an episode per vs a full season all at once. If the show is good, a weekly release schedule is a vastly smarter marketing strategy.
@sakaixx: Same. Back in the SNES and PS1 days, SQUARE was cranking out a top tier game every 1-2 years. Now Square mostly just publishes 3rd party games and they average only 1-2 in-house games per console generation. Hopefully FF7 remake is not a 10 year+ ordeal.
Back in the day, it took about 5-6 hours to get out of Midgar. FFVII as a whole was about a 60 hour game. So, episode 1 will essentially be 10% of the main over arching story. Of course, Remake part 1 will not simply be a 6 hour game. I'm sure theye going to add a bunch of additional Avalanche content to, you know, actually make you care about Jesse, Biggs, and Wedge. They will also probably allow you to go to the other sectors of Midgar beyond just Sector 7 and 5.
Still, how do you make 6 hours of content stretch out into a stand-alone $60 AAA title? There's gonna be a lot of padding and a lot of open-world mechanics they likely throw into this. Does this mean FFVII Remake will be a 10(ish) part series? If so, damn, I guess we'll be finishing it on PS7...
@lostn: I wonder if HBO made him secretly sign a contract stating that he wouldnt release any books within the Ice and Fire series until after the HBO show is over.
The plot of KH has become so convoluted from all of the mobile / handheld games that I really wonder how SE is going to get new players interested in KH3. I mean, it's been 12 years since KH2 which means half a generation of people have grown up without a proper installment within the franchise. They can't just market this game to the weebs. It'll be interesting to see how they "catch up" all of the newcomers and casual fans. (I played KH1 and 2 at launch and I barely remember anything that happened minus the core plot)
@Xristophoros: The Disney factor is problematic for a PC release, but Square Enix has ported most of their recent launches to PC. I'd say if SE had full control, KH3 will go to PC. WIth Disney involved, it's 50/50.
