[QUOTE="Metamania"]

[QUOTE="DarkCatalyst"]Giving myself an ultimatum. If I am not Elite Channel material by December, I have no business playing Street Fighter IV and should move onto other games. I don't have to be the best but I'm sick of losing to players I've never heard of. I'm better than this, and if I can't start playing at a level I'm more accustomed to when I play fighting games, I'll focus my energy on learning other games and shaking off the rust in games I'm already good at. Anyone who wants to help level me up, and more importantly, knows they can, is more than welcome.DarkCatalyst

The opponents that you keep losing to, the people you never heard of; you always say that it's the better opponent that usually wins in the match.

So...

Were they any better than you or were some of them just average and you slipped up in your matches and lost?

That's what bothers me. I think the problem is that I'VE gotten average, and that's not something I have an easy time just accepting, so I either have to level up or play something where I can once again be dominant.

personally online play is your problem. Get in your local scene and start doing offline play. Where you can advice from players. Net play teaches you basic match up exerience, but if you want to get in depth get in your scene.

[QUOTE="Piroshki"]As a lesser skilled player myself, a tutorial mode that actually works would be more appreciated than a handicap. Seriously, the tutorial modes need to teach people how to do this and that fundamental thing, instead of just saying "do this" and me standing there feeling stupid. These modes keep asking you to do things as if they expect you to already know how to do them. Don't tell me to do something, without showing me how. I like winning as much as the next guy, but not with a handicap. That's just endorsed cheating.King9999

I always say that every fighting game needs to have what VF4 Evo has, and that's an in-depth tutorial. That solves the problem of teaching new players how to play the game. If they want to get good, they have to keep playing and can't be expected to rely on crutches. You should not penalize the better player; that's a huge no-no. That's like losing your queen because you took out your opponent's knights and pawns. Ono and other people who think like him are going about things the wrong way.

Blazblue also did the same, going over system mechanics, and basic gameplay.

Looking to sort of get back in SFIV. Since a new BB balance patch is on the way and seem to be shaking things up quite a bit.

[QUOTE="DarkCatalyst"] I think it just comes down to scrubs need to stop being so damn free.DarkCatalyst

*shrugs* if people get enjoyment out of playing at a low level I don't really care. I'll never say no to combo practice.

I wasn't complaining. I just think when they get salty it's really a matter of "do something about yourself before you start talking about others." :) That's the beauty of the fighting genre. Complaining gets people nowhere, but if you learn how to MAKE someone stop spamming...

For sure, its a difficult process for people to transistion. When I first got into SFIV which was my first fighting game in ages, it was weird getting use to the SRK punish, espically since it was easily abusable in a I don't really feel confident in my combos situation. But it was a viable lesson to be learned.

bait punish. It can be frustrating when you are first starting out but it teach you offense baiting and punish. I mean half the zangiefs online just sping to win hoping you mess up your combo. So I intentionally drop combos at a safe point, neutral jump heavy into another combo.

This is an awful list. Really for those who aren't into Japan's culture and eccentricities, the only shows they need to watch are School Rumble and Full Metal Alchemist. The first one naturally, not the godawful "Brotherhood" version.

School rumble is amazing

I'm reading the manga right now, it's pretty good but not amazing (imo of course). I don't know I feel like the manga's good when it focuses around Harima (and his interactions with Yakumo/Eri/Tenma) and so-so when it focuses on anything else.

It captures teh stupidity of high school drama perfectly. I agree the Harima love triangle is the best part but everyone else is just as enjoyable.

Yeah, I like em, its just they are so far away from. The closest one is a bridge toll and an hour and a half away. BUt gundam vs gundam is fun. Getting to play Ikaruga is fun. And blazblue CSII at an arcade is a great experience.

For this discussion to go anywhere people need to first define what a sport is. That is where all the discussion comes from because no one can provide a concrete definition of a sport. Much like music it can't really be defined.
