A loud noise is likely to be caused by something obstructing the fan. If it's out of warranty you could always try opening it yourself and clean the fan out, plenty of instructions online on how to go about it. You can always still slap it back together and pay for sony to repair it. Alternatively it's possible some small independent electronics stores could repair it for less than Sony.
