I know, but I'd guess that a ninja would also have to be competant with various bladed weapons/throwing knives/whatever. You'd expect him to be able to kill people fairly quickly, if spotted.
Thief's combat is slower, and only allows for one-hit kills if the enemy is unaware of your presence. It wouldn't feel right in a ninja game.Planeforger
I think ninjas would work differently. First, if they were spotted, they'd run. Then they try to assess the situation like if the objective would be unreachable if the guards had been alerted of an intruder, they'd need to kill the guard that spotted the ninja. If it's still obtainable, then there's no need to risk the ninja's life. Getting away and creating a situation in which the ninja could kill the guard by luring and trapping him would be ninja combat. It is completely different from Ninja Gaiden head on fighting.
There'd still be some close combat, but only for the sake of getting away unless you're fighting scrub village guards.
[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"][QUOTE="Metroid_Time"]Splinter Cell is the modern Ninja. Hiding in the dark aiming at people's heads with laser sights is better than throwing ninja stars anyhow.Planeforger
Thief is far closer to what a true ninja game would be then Splinter Cell. :P
It has the stealth part, but the combat isn't 'fast' enough for what you'd expect of a ninja game.
I guess someone could make a ninja mod for Thief...that would work. ;)
Ideally, there would be very little combat involved. Or the combat would involve hide and seek, distract and trap, one strike kills.
 I should've known you'd make your way into this thread and display your fanboy nonsense..kingsy_the_one

Both of you need to look up NPDvsVGChartz comparisons.
As I see it, developers want it only on PS3, Ubiflop CEO want money.
And developers are all that matters.
[QUOTE="NobuoMusicMaker"]And a patrolling guard won't turn on the lights and won't trip over a dead body placed in the hallway... suuuure.
istreakforfood
i know cause MGS did that.
I do remember the AI turning the lights if you turn it off in SC: Chaos Theory. i dont remember if they do on the previous SC games, but im sure SC Pandora tomorrow did as well. I played both for xbox and ps2 for sc1 and sc2, but i dont remember. i do remember the AIs were better on the xbox version of pandora tomorrow and some of the areas in the game were different compare to the ps2. PS2 version of SC1 seemed exactly the same as the xbox version from what i remember.
When you destroy/tamper the lights the AI went on alert mode depending on the situation. i think this depended on the difficulty you played on. anyways i did enjoy playing the Splinter Cell series. For me my favorite out of them so far is Chaos Theory.
In MGS, they check in on the patrol if they don't report in.
The AI is only alerted when you tamper with the lights when they are around. If they're deadmeat, it's all fair game.
