@JG: Unfortunately I did try TOR. Waste of my time. Absolutely AWFUL writing. Bioware is circling the drain. I can't wait for the market to reject them.
@Wolfbm Terrible taste confirmed. you do realize ME 2 did literally nothing right? It was a pause in the plot. A sidetracking. None of the decisions in it mattered to the series. If Bioware went from ME 1 to ME 3 it would work fine. That said the gameplay was a nice improvement , oversimplified leveling notwithstanding (which is fixed in 3). HOPEFULLY the writing isn't terrible like in DA 2 or TOR.
@dodgingbullet You realize Bioware is a company that deletes, bans, and edits even civilized criticism from its customers right? Every single speck of criticism they get that isn't people refusing to buy something they completely disregard and blame on trolls or do one of the above to if it's on their own forum. You might say Bioware are undeserving victims, but you haven't seen their forum moderators reword criticizing posts to be positive. You haven't seen a forum post go from, "This part was pretty cool, but x, y, z, a, b, c, d, e, and f parts were really subpar" to "This part was really cool. The arrogant hacks in their company (Priestly, Woo, and yes Hepler) would probably never get an industry job again outside of EA, and the real talent would find studios to apply themselves to. If Mass Effect 3 is good, it will probably be the last good game to leave Bioware. C&C has a chance, but after that all I can see is complete failure.
@Accuser No, it doesn't. Like I said, this crap takes it much too far. HOWEVER, we shouldn't all suddenly start to pretend we love her writing (Anvil of The Void + The Fade in Origins, Anders + most romances in DA 2, The Old Titanic) just because she's being attacked. Every news site is all "OH BUT HER WRITING IS SO EXCELLENT!" Nope. I for one am not ashamed to say that in the light of these attacks and all this controversy, I still detest her writing.
@wolfbm Sales did speak louder than words on DA 2. The PC version of Origins outsold all 3 versions of DA 2 combined. Also, you have terrible taste. That's an objective fact and not just my opinion. DA 2 has so many unredeemable, objective visual, design, and writing flaws + cut corners that anyone who prefers it to Origins has bad taste.
"Making games better" I'm sorry but no. I have looked up the specific characters and questlines she has written and they were my least favorite parts of their respective games in terms of writing, and overall a noticeable, distinct decline in writing quality from Bioware's standard. Dragon Age 2. Anders. Holy *** what a trainwreck. She wrote a ton of other stuff in the console abortion that was DA 2, but holy ***********. Way to ruin a cool character. And no, it has nothing to do with him being retconned to like the penis. Also ToR. A game I avoided because every bit of writing I saw in the beta that wasn't part of Smuggler or Imperial Agent was absolutely awful. Are the attacks out of line? Yes. Is a woman whose only work outside of games was received terribly and was basically a mary sue laden fanfic (look up MITH) and who was only hired because she was married to an existing employee making Bioware's games better? God no. These attacks and harassment are ridiculous, but for what its worth I'm not ashamed to say that I absolutely detest her fanfiction-like writing. Bioware letting her go would be a step towards making their games better. That's just honesty.
yeah, I'm in-industry, I mod, model, do a bit of scripting for the odd-job retail game and modding project. I am 17 and 10 months. yeah im under 18, life is so **** I'm **** sick and tired of being a second class citizen. can't get a decent paying steady "RL" job even if im qualified, am limited in every single aspect of life. I've been lying about my age online for approx. 4 years now, most know me as 24-26. simnply because of mmo age discriminating guilds, fps clans, and as an EVE online CEO, not many people are going to see someone under 18 as worth their time listening to. for 4 years i've so jealously looked at E3 wanting to go sorely, and nwo that I'm about to turn 18 they wreck it. I'm pretty pissed at them right now. But I blame the american news networks, instead of talking about net neutrality or E3, we cover communities of people whining about lawn gnomes and leaves. Would it kill the networks to cover the biggest gaming event of the year? well anyway because the publishers weren't making enough money or "getting enough coverage" we're turning E3 into a small, "who cares" ordeal the year i was finally going to go. but enough of my ranting, I'll probably be banned from every mmo i used my email on and IP banned form gamespot after this post is read.
