@electrogremlin Where did I say that? I did say that if an artist doesn't sell records they will get dropped, just like a game studio will drop a IP that doesn't sell. Facts of life. Not an opinion like what is or is not good art.

@deadpeasant Yes but to some hardcore fans of music want the sound of vinyl over digital, Doesn't matter to them that the quality is better with digital, they want it like they first heard it.

Mr Sinclair as a musician I understand why you may feel the way you do about what is or is not art. However you are so very wrong. If the Beatles didn't sell any copies of their new sound, they would have went back to the poppy songs they started with. You don't think the record company would force them to change or drop a none selling artist? Metallica messed with their sound and fans hated it so bad they went back to their older sound and fans came back. Mass Effect 3 is a perfect example of a game that needs to be changed, as it is now, the fans hate it. They buy the "art" that is created to sell a video game that they want to play, the ending of ME3 makes fans not want to play the single player. I play the MP quite a bit and every person but 1 I have played with hates the ending. Every other ME game people played at least 2 times, many 4 to 6 times. ME3 however for the people that played one full Paragon and full Renegade to get the exact same three choices is a lazy and horrid design choice. In ME1 and really in ME2 the end is completely different based on good or evil choices. To make really one ending and call it art to try and hide the fact it sucked is a false argument and should not be factored in. If the art sucks and no one likes it, you have failed as an artist. If you stay "true" to your vision, you and maybe one or two other "I'm better then everybody else, I like your artsy crap painted blue on a stick." You may be happy, but you will be poor, starving, and alone.

Using your own example of music, how many times have artists remastered their original recordings? The entire Iron Maiden collection was remastered for example. Did that "ruin" the original sound recordings, or by removing background noise and remixing levels of different tracks to make them stand out more make the music better? How about books? Many books have either been altered or edited after release, plays rewritten and imagined, movies that change major plot points from the books they are based on, and many songs have been remixed and remade by other artists as well. You know as well as anyone that products made as entertainment are subjective because all art is subjective and a matter of opinion. Even Picasso, Da Vinci, and Shakespeare have redone their own work.

There is a long history or art changing for many different reasons so to act like art never changes is an uneducated and I would say elitist attitude used to cover up a poor piece of art that sucks. I don't mind that you like it the way it is, I do mind you or anyone acting like fixing a mistake is destroying the game market. I would argue that BS like ME3 is destroying the market by the developer making false claims like "We would never force players into an A, B, or C ending, that would be wrong. There are 16 different endings.", another lie they told, "MP will not be needed to reach 100% of your war assets." There are NOT 16 endings to ME3, and MP is indeed needed to get 100%. Can you with a straight face say that Bioware made no false claims about ME3? People are not as upset by the one very poor ending, but more by the fact there is really is only one ending just with green, blue, or red magic fire. My point is THEY LIED TO US and you seem to be OK with that!

You are a writer and I bet you have changed your own work or been forced to change by an editor like you may have even done to your very own staff. So sir for you to say "no they should not change it" when you yourself edit peoples written "art" or I bet have even been forced to change your own words is just laughable. Oh wait don't you consider written words to be art? Get real, history and everyday life tells us things change, sometimes for the better, sometime they make it worse (Han shot first George Lucas!). So please stop the its an "art" form argument, and stop pretending "art" never changes.

You and I both would like to see the industry survive, but DRM, always online, online passes, FPS CoD clones, buggy games, DLC on disc, and 10 hour single player games at $60 is the real threat to the industry. So let Bioware fix the mistakes they made with ME3 and please stop the endless "but video games are art" BS. History has proven "art" changes all the time!

I really find it odd that they don't release these games about 6 months apart from each other. They are both fighting for mostly the same FPS audience after all. At only a few weeks apart, now its one or the other for most people in this economy, when I bet most people really want both games if your a big FPS fan. I think sales of both games would be higher this way because it seems that people get bored with FPS's rather quickly and would be looking for a new one to play by then anyway. Their is a reason Hollywood doesn't release Batman and Spiderman at the same time, they know they have mostly the same audience and want both of them to have the best chance to succeed on their own. We all know that competition make the games we play better and it would still be there even if they are released 6 months apart from each other. Fans of only one would make sure we know why their pick is better then the other one and the fans of both (or only the other one) are just uninformed or not as cool as them.

To everyone that has said game A is worth \$60 but game B is only worth \$40, the problem is thats your opinion and sales are what the industry uses as its guide, not opinions. I have heard a million times how people want a long single player story and multiplayer that has full story co op, deathmatches, and a free mode. Who doesn't want that right? I have heard a million times how people won't buy the next years sport title because all they really are is roster updates for whatever sport your into. Look at the sales figures and year, after year, its FPS's with short single player and the same old deathmatches, along with sports titles that sell the best. Is it any wonder the industry can't seem to figure this out, what people say they want, is not what people are buying by the millions.
