Are online services like Nintendo Wi-Fi, Xbox Live, and the Playstation Network proprietary? Even if Nintendo improves on its online service, will there be lawsuits from companies who claim that Nintendo copied their service? The legal cases against Internet telephone company Vontage reminds me of this.yowvapa2

I'd hope nintendo learned their lesson after all the lawsuits about the Wiimote. They are probably being careful not to step on any other companies toes.

Nintendo needs to better their online systems first before they even think of using pay and play. Let's face it, it's pretty subpar compared to the other two consoles online system.feryl06

Well I think thats the point of pay and play. To make a more in depth online service with the catch you have to pay for it.

I've heard a lot about Nintendo using pay to play, but I don't see it happening. At least I hope it doesn't happen.

There are currently no games on the Wii that I would personally pay to play online

Yeah that was pretty much my feelings too. I have strikers which is OK for online play. But definately not worth paying for. Maybe there are some big online games coming down the pipe that are worth it? I'm also curious as to what the "advanced features" for the pay service will be.

Has anyone else heard about how Nintendo is supposidley going to start charging for online play in new games?? Supposidely it is going to debut with the release of Mario Kart Wii. Here is a link to the article I read :

I am not a big fan of charging for the online service. If they really expand the features I guess it will be ok. I would rather it just be basic and free rather than complex and for a price.

Mario Kart Wii is going to be free online play. The box art was already released and the Wi-Fi logo is blue. This site failed to mention that Pay 2 Play games are going to have a red Wi-Fi logo on them. Mario Kart Wii will not make you pay for online. It is almost guarenteed that no Nintendo games will use pay 2 play.

Please have a cookie for crushing my fears with a sledgehammer of logic.

Excellent metaphor
