Generally, I think games with a shallow story make me less motivated. Sometimes I even think story is more important than gameplay. For example, Ninja Gaiden II really has some awesome action and you really feel powerful while playing it, but where the hell was the story ? I never really got that.. While in the other hand Final Fantasy 7 had some okay gameplay, but I'll remember the story for the rest of my life.
